KANSAS CITY LAUNCHES HOSTILE TAKEOVER AS 18TH & VINE CRUMBLES!!!

Here's a battle of local institutions as $100-million worth of City Hall investment in this district since the 90s still isn't enough to build a sustainable biz model or community . . . Checkit:

Fox4: Owner of Club Mardi Gras says city is trying to take over historic jazz spot

Deets:

A woman in the 18th and Vine District claims the city is trying to take her property. Her supporters say the city should be more concerned about taking care of its own properties.

The Club Mardi Gras has been in Walker's family for more than 30 years. It's considered historic by many in Kansas City. This is where Charlie Parker performed, as well as Duke Ellington and Miles Davis.

A few months ago, part of an exterior wall of the club collapsed into the street.

Walker-Yeager said, before she could make repairs, the city declared it a dangerous building and is trying to take ownership of the property.

  1. That entire neighborhood is a dangerous shit-hole money pit and the city should actually close it all down, bulldoze it, and either put a stadium there or a community garden.

At present it's a great place to go become a victim of a crime and tax dollars support it.

  2. I agree with the above poster. I am from Joco. Last time I was down there for some Jazz festival even 2 cars raced side by side down the street at about 80 mph. Jockeying to get into position to shoot at each other. Don't go there if you value your life. DST Systems Inc made that are off limits to staff entertaining clients as they knew it was dangerous. Jazz is like a buggy whip. Outdated and not needed. Forget Jazz. Level the whole area and make parking for city trucks and heavy equipment there.

  3. But yet our new mayor lives in subsidized housing at 18th and Vine. Why would Quinton want to change the status quo there?

  4. Jazz isn't totally dead, and there are incredible jazz musicians in KC you can hear in lots of other venues besides this P.O.S.

I agree though. 18th & Vine is NOT a Civil War sacred battlefield. It's a shit hole ghetto with Escalade drivers in charge. It's time for it to end.

  5. KCMO taxpayers are a bunch of fools. They vote in one regime after another that throws millions of dollars into the black hole known as the jazz district. The news report above says, to date, the city has poured $27 million into this money pit. And yet how much $$ does the jazz district bring to the city each year? I’m guessing nothing if it requires so much subsidy. It’s time to level this area and use it for something profitable or needed. A bunch of derelict buildings are neither.

  6. First of all, there is little of historic value in that so-call district. Baccalla, City's minion is ridiculous and looks like the typical White toxic male bully. He sees these folks trying but wants to stick his foot on the neck of a Black woman trying. Meanwhile most of the City owned property in that area looks like shit, is in receivership and gets all the taxpayer cash the City can push towards it and its still shitty. No wonder nobody wants to live in KC Proper. Everybody has grandiose plans and actual owners have to work twice as hard to keep their property.

  7. Once you take the cream out of the Oreo cookie.....all you have left is 18th and Vine, and KCFD

  8. @5:33PM Mayor Lucas also now has 24/7 security so he can live at 18th and Vine safe and sound. You are correct. He has NO reason to change the status quo there.

  9. Wasn’t this restaurant featured on a cooking show recently. It was a shit hole if I recall. Anybody remember it ?

  10. Jazz is almost dead. The people that listened to it are in their 80s or 90s. Young kids have no interest. Its been scientifically proven to appeal to those with mental illnesses, including schizo due to its not repeating refrains such as pop music. Its like walking down an always changing hall and nothing looks the same as the part you already passed through. Jazz greats were druggies and lived in dire poverty and vice. Its a depressing and hearing damage level music. Just because you can make a loud sound doesn't mean its quality. Many players are gone from AIDS and heroin. Its a sad music.

  11. The City has nickle and dime the Jazz district for years. The downtown rebuild (Power and Light) costed over 1 billion dollars and that is why it does as good as it does. Its really funny to read the above comments, these comments are likely coming from white people who only have a high school education, if that, and are poor, and know nothing about economics and urban development. On top of that this is the type of white people who are members of the KKK and the like. You guys are not in charge of a dam thing.
