'Fix it': Kansas City drivers tell of racial profiling at Missouri committee hearing

After a state report again showed that black drivers in Missouri are more likely to be pulled over than whites, members of a Missouri House special committee on Thursday heard from Kansas City-area residents who said they have experienced racial profiling.

  2. I drive everyday for a living and I can’t see who’s in a car until I get really close to them, like 10 yards away close, these morons screaming racial profiling are doing something wrong or they wouldn’t keep getting pulled over. The days of playing the race card to get out of getting a ticket are over because that’s all this is about, fix all the lights on your hooptie, get LEGAL TAGS, quit speeding, quit driving like an idiot and you won’t get pulled over.

I agree with 1023. You don't know the color, sex, nationally, etc of a driver until the vehicle be has been stopped. They aren't stopped for "driving while black", they're stopped for some other reason. Maybe those statiics point again, to black people being more likely to break the law.

  11. Sounds like the special committee thinks a quota system should be used to determine who is pulled over. Quota systems do not reflect what is occurring on the streets.

  12. Maybe they should post the reasons for pulling a car over with the video evidence and just maybe it will shut these fuckers up, blacks can’t keep hiding the truth forevar.

  13. My experience with the KCPD is reverse profiling. They mostly give tickets to middle class drivers who they expect will pay the ticket. Not too nice because that Beamer might be someone important so they are left alone. I have received 5 tickets over the years. The tickets in KCMO - 5, elsewhere - 0. Despite the fact that my miles driven in KCMO is probably only 10% of the total.

  14. While I doubt that the Star's story is complete or accurate, it sounds like the cops who attended did a bit of pushing back. That's a good start.

  15. Racial profiling is a problem. It always has been. It's kind of like one of the great black/brown American experiences. If you don't believe it than it's because you're white.

  17. How can they racially profile? I'd bet over 90% of the cars they pull over have tinting on the sides and rear windows. Even at the state minimum 50% front side windows, you cannot tell color difference. I don't drive like a jackass, but I do have fully illegal 5% on my sides. It has gotten me pulled over before, but by the time the cop gets to the car, they're both rolled down, I'm being pleasant and have a fully insured & tagged car. To date out of 3 stops over six years or so, no tickets.
