One of the very last middle-class enclaves in Kansas City proper is celebrating a milestone as denizens fend off development and their neighbors in hopes that the Whole Foods will save them.

Hint: It won't.

Nevertheless, here's a look at the occasion and a nice way to earn a few discounts amid the death of retail and the rise of interchangeable specialty coffee shops with a lifespan of about 18 months . . .
