Does Anybody REALLY Care About The Kansas City Port Authority?!?!

Honest question with that post title . . . This civic screeds seem nice but I'm not sure how much they move the dial given that it seems like nothing more than a collection of the same people talking to each other.

Here's the latest:

Plugging the Port Hole

A recent column by Dave Helling in The Kansas City Star called for Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas to challenge Port KC, the city's port authority, by asking for the resignation of the authority's board of commissioners. Part of the reason was Port KC's willingness to offer incentives to Google (a story we wrote about recently).

  7. It seems if the mayor were serious about taking control he could just appoint members who would fire Stephens, disband almost all operations and refuse to give any additional tax incentives. But if he did that I would guess the Chamber boys would hire multiple PR firms to have full time hacks working overtime to discredit the mayor. So he will take the politically expedient route and go along.

They all do. It's the "Golden Rule". "He who has the gold can buy the rules".

Lucas talks a good game. But when it's all said and done, he, nor the council, have any real power as, if they haven't already, they will get bought and paid for by the real power in this town and continue the same process of tax, borrow, and spend that has created financial havok in this town for years. Because in the end it's still #KorruptCity
