Defend Kansas City Westside Rally?!?!?

Here's the protest premise that reads like it's NOT from anybody who was actually raised in this community . . .

"The Westside is under attack from gentrification, a brutal wall meant to push families out of their neighborhoods and displace them indefinitely all for the sake of profit. This wall will not fall unless we hit it. Join us in celebration of the Westside, as a call to fight back against those who want to steal our home from us!"

Sadly, this "movement" is about 25-30 years too late and seems to be focused on people building new places and not the property taxes that threaten and evoke the ire of all residents despite demographic differences.

To be fair, they promised a piƱata & free food so TKC will be there to report!!! (Hint: No I won't.)

Developing . . .

  2. Gentrification has already hurt the lifestyle of the West Side badly!
There are areas there now where you are frowned on if you have more than four partly disassembled cars sitting in your front yard. Can this sort of infamy be allowed to continue?

  3. The city has ignored the west side for decades until sLIE found out his developers wanted it, there has been a big push from various city depts (at sLIE and troys request) to make “them people” uncomfortable enough to force them out and get the developers in. That there is valuable land folks and with “them people” and their old houses they’re losing big tax dollars. The outrage should be sLIE and the cities racism against the Mexicans, besides, we all know the blacks hate Mexicans.

@7:56 is 100% correct as SLie was trying to eliminate the blight from the downtown and surrounding areas. The crossroads murder placed a stain on his utopia.

  5. Just sell your ugly house to a wealthy and well connected BMW drivin' "vestor". They are happy to offer $85K to $100K cash. Then you can go out and buy your dream home with that money!

Think about all you can do with that $85K!

  6. Damn shame the city wants them out especially since that’s were the city forced them to live over a hundred years ago. The history of the west side will be wiped out for what? So blacks can ruin it too I’m guessing.

  7. All you poor people being displaced and kicked out of your neighborhood in the Westside should contact Wickham James... The new intellectual giants of KCMO politics.

  8. But all these White and Wealthy Jesus Freaks and Progressives stealing your land and building their big sunblocking McMansions are helping to raise your property values. They are fighting crime and blight!

    This is a good thing!

  9. What is that under the clenched fist, a chicken head?

There's a distressing lack of detail as to how these organizers plan to fight gentrification, which after all is just individuals deciding to buy and develop properties. I'll guess that their Plan A involves rallies, candles and balloons.

  10. No you are not imagining things they've got you backed up against the wall.

You've been totally f_ucked over by Slyin' James and crew. Now your going to have to sell low and leave or face tax auction or foreclosure at some point.

  14. The documentary "Priced Out," which is available on Kanopy, the KC library's free streaming service is a good start for anyone interested in gentrification and its effects.

  15. Sounds like Brown nationalism. Why do they think their neighborhood can only be brown. This no different than white nationalism, they are against diversity. This is racism.

  17. Actually, this gentrification is the sign of a healthy, vital community. When it happens in older parts of Jo Co everybody applauds. That $100K starter home in Roeland Park goes for $175K in about five years. I hope that Westside residents see the donut and not the hole. This is the way middle class white folks accumulate assets. Why shouldn't Westsiders do it too?

  18. ^^^ It refers to a fiesta held annually on April 1st in Huixquilucan Municipality, "el Fiesta del Pollo Inconsciente".

  19. The city should not allow this racist gathering a public park. Do they have permit?

  21. They are just going to let the well to do suburban whites come in and steal their neighborhood-land from them?

    That sucks.
