Aging Kansas City Hipsters Endure Awful Crowd @ Ben Folds & Violent Femmes

Real talk from the Starlight concert . . . It was a slog and Gen X gets a stark reminder of why Internets streaming and a night at home is usually the better option.

Tim Finn was more hopefull:

"The music and the band have aged well. Frontman Gordon Gano hasn’t shred a scrap of strength or nasality from his inimitable voice, and the band hasn’t lost its subversive sense of novelty and quirkiness, nor its unique means of stirring a crowd into a sing-along frenzy."

Still a thoughtful review:

  1. Aging hipsters is being too generous. More like ANCIENT hipsters and they all talk too much.

  2. I'm an old person who is freaked out by these bands touring well into their 60's and 70's. Voices don't maintain their strength as they age, and all the guitar thrashing in the world isn't going to make up for it. While it's fun to reminisce and sing along with your favorites, count me out at these live events.

  3. I saw the violent femmes a few years back and was actually impressed with their show. It was at a MUCH small venue though. I don't see how it could translate to starlight. Ben Folds is just boring music and i feel bad for all the dudes who were dragged there by their gf
