TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! WILL KANSAS CITY COOPERATE WITH UPCOMING IMMIGRATION RAIDS?!?!
Fear of a massive immigration crackdown is sweeping through the metro and the nation . . .
Here are a few news items that offer an overview of the situation along with somewhat local reaction:
Vox: Mayors and protesters remain defiant ahead of ICE raids: “You’re going to have to come through us”
Fox News: Armed man shot, killed after launching flares at ICE facility
Fox4: Rally calls on Lawrence to be declared sanctuary city
Hill: Americans do not support Trump's ICE raids
Fox News: Democrats commit political suicide on immigration
NBCNews: Former ICE chief says raids announced for political gain, endangering migrants, agents
Let's not forget that Mayor Sly famously led an immigration rally with a bullhorn at the airport during the outset of the Prez Trump immigration crackdown.
In spirit, the current crop of local politicos also seem to favor immigration leniency.
Mayor-Elect Quinton Lucas promised a KCMO ID card during his "racial justice" campaign -- The form of ID would be issued to every resident who asked for it regardless of immigration status.
It's also worth remembering that KCPD has endorsed and provided funding for the "CAN CENTER" community outreach approach that offers housing and help to many migrants without regard to their immigration status. The strategy hopes to facilitate communication with immigrant communities and prioritizes fighting violent crime over playing border patrol agent -- The strategy has proven largely successful as KCMO Latino/immigrant neighborhoods have achieved far less crime than neighboring immigrant or urban core communities.
And all of this prologue leads us to the only question that matters:
WILL KANSAS CITY COOPERATE WITH THE PREZ TRUMP IMMIGRATION ICE CRACKDOWN OR MOVE CLOSER TO "SANCTUARY CITY" STATUS?!?!
In KCMO, local politicos earn a great deal of cred for thumbing their nose at the Prez and Republican leaders in Jeff City.
However, the lead up to this crackdown has been more subdued given the upcoming power transition at 12th & Oak.
And all of this has inspired tonight's playlist . . .
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night . . .
