TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY CONSTRUCTION DUDE KEN BLOCK TOUTS DOWNTOWN BUILDING BOOM MOMENTUM!!!

An argument for ongoing prosperity from a local power player who has done nicely during the so-called Downtown Kansas City Renaissance tops the civic agenda as we transition from one administration to the next.

Here's the word . . .

REJ: Ken Block: The cranes not leaving Kansas City anytime soon

Money line:

"Kansas City is about as strong as it has been in a long time, economically and in how our citizens are doing. Our gross regional product is running very close to 3 percent, which is stronger than it has been. Our unemployment rate was down to 3.3 percent, which is lower than the national unemployment rate.

"There are lot of job openings in the right sectors today. This includes education and health services, professional business services and government jobs. There are opportunities, too, in manufacturing and utilities. When I started out in this business, our economy was not nearly as expansive as it is today. We were strong in agriculture, manufacturing and the automobile industry. But we did not have the level of medical, professional, tech, business or any of the kind of jobs we have today. We are mirroring almost exactly the U.S. economy. We have a very strong economy spread out over every single job opportunity."

In many ways, this seems like the very antithesis of the bigger, better national debate on the topic of prosperity . . .

Vice: The Next Recession Could Arrive Before the End of Trump’s Term, Says Elizabeth Warren

And so we ask . . .

IS SEN. WARREN RIGHT ABOUT PREPARING FOR ECONOMIC COLLAPSE OR WILL THE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY BUILDING BOOM CONTINUE TO BENEFIT FROM THE PREZ TRUMP BULL MARKET?!?!

Even better . . .

This juxtaposition is delightful given that so many Conservatives decry the KCMO building boom on borrowed money but support Prez Trump's economic progress. By that same token, progressives adore local progress in redeveloping inside the loop but rarely give credit to the Prez Trump economy which helps to finance the good times.

We look forward to any rhetorical tap dancing on the topic whilst we keep all of our wooden nickles earned from blogging in a coffee can under a mattress.

  3. Says Elizabeth Warren who wants to eliminate and delete all student loans. There would have to be some huge economic fall back from that stupid move. Where is the responsibility in this? So they go to collage rack up huge debts? Sure let’s club and party every night, drink Starbucks for breakfast and have lunch with drinks during the day and we won’t owe a dime for our education? Screw that! Get your ass a job, get your ass an education that YOU PAY for and at the same time learn what responsibility is about!

Yet KCMO is in the top 10 of most in debt towns in the nation and SLie's friendly developer calls that momentum as he has his hands under the table for more taxpayer handouts.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 9:27 you ignorant fool. Both the feds and the states are awash in tax money. What they don't have is any bit of self-control over their spending. It is the spending that is causing the deficits to explode. I guess that's a tough story for the mainstream media to explain to the American people, so they don't try and print the truth.

Look at Kansas City for an example. If City Hall would stop supporting every little building project that comes along there would be millions more in tax dollars to spend on the things Kansas City really needs.

If the House and Senate would stop fighting and stop wasting money on illegal immigrants and hand the checking book out to every illegal who comes across our borders we would have billions of extra tax dollars. Stop with all the feel good massive handouts to other countries and once again more billions would be saved. Look Warren wants to provide free education, wow will that ever drive up the deficit. Every clown and their brothers and sisters will all be lined up for free college and I bet 75% will never a passing grade in anything.

No the tax cut isn't the issue at all.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Let's all go over to Ken Blocks lush mansion-compound in Mission Hills and look for cranes and bulldozers.

  11. Stop stupid dave. Just stop. You have no fucking idea what you're talking about, so just stop. "the tax cut isn't the issue at all" Huh?? You fucking tool. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service: the tax cut added $1.414 TRILLION to the deficit!!! but yea dipshit, that's no effect at all! Goddamn Dave...how did you become so willfully ignorant???? Trump's new Federal Budget would also raise spending by $320 billion as well. You need to go away stupid dave, you are a complete idiot who has NO idea what your saying.

  16. If the real estate market is so strong, why do the politicos keep letting Developers, like Block, keep picking the pockets of the Taxpayers??

    Crony Capitalism...pure corruption!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. JUST THE FACTS MA'AM

Mr. Block's comment seems to support the "infrastructure projects as a jobs program" argument for lessening the effects of a recession on KC.

E.g., While KC doesn't really require a streetcar, new single-terminal airport, convention center hotel, etc., if you seek to keep construction-related interests busy with work projects, then public subsidization is warranted. But of course, this manner of business requires the broad taxpayer base to subsidize the real estate/developer/financial/political class.

And how do they accomplish this scheme, in which the "have-nots" indirectly pay tribute to the "haves"? While many of the "haves" are KCMO non-residents, they pay political bribes and affiliate in business/legal groups to force their agenda, thereby hijacking municipal government for their vested interests. Everyone knows the Kansas-side of the stateline pulls KCMO strings, just look at campaign contribution lists.

Here's the longstanding arrangement: Business/legal/financial/professional-class congregate on the Kansas-side while using their influence to pimp KC City Hall. KCMO political leaders amenable to prostituting themselves are placed in position to turn tricks and turn the funds over to their Kansas-based pimp. "Those people" in KCMO are left with oppressive tax rates, dysfunctional schools, neglected basic infrastructure, high crime, and the hollow promise that "help is on the way."

Perhaps Mr. Block can reply back to the following items.
(Note: These are just a few of many. Block was originally pushing Scott Taylor as he used his Planning/Zoning position to reward Block interests.)

Kenneth Block 700 W 47th St Kansas City MO 64112-1800 Block Real Estate Services LLC -- Managing Principal

  24. Skeptical economist7/23/19, 11:49 AM

The overarching error in thinking here is that tax cuts cause an increase in deficits. I understand how those who believe that government owns everything and has a call on everyone's labor would come to this conclusion. But I seriously doubt that that is the prevailing view here or anywhere outside of a hardcore Bernie Sanders rally.

Deficits are the product of spending more than what you are taking in. The "taking in" side of the equation has remained remarkably stable over the past 150 years. We slice the pie various ways but, as a percentage of GDP, government hacks off about 17%. Tax cuts come and tax cuts go. Tariffs are added and tariffs are taken away. It's all just deck chairs. When confiscation rises above 17% for more than a brief moment, economic growth has contracted and overall tax receipts have declined. This has happened enough times to be considered a bellwether by economists of all stripes.

Spending as a percentage of GDP isn't stable, however. Up until about 1920, federal spending was about 3% of GDP. Since that time, we have been on a fairly consistent growth path toward today's roughly 20% (I've conveniently removed spending spikes known as The New Deal and the 2nd World War).

The problem is that the 17% confiscation rate takes into consideration taxation at all levels of government. Back when the feds where taking 3% of GDP, state and local government were able to clip 14% and still keep the economy growing. With the federal take now at 20% and state and local government at something closer to 5%, simple arithmetic says you've got to borrow about 8% to keep the wheels on the bus.

So, to those who say that reducing taxes is the cause of deficits, your dilemma is how to keep the economy moving while pushing government's take past the 25% of GDP that it is already consuming. We've been able to fool the economy into believing the take is only 17% by borrowing 8% but that cannot last forever.

She has no credibility, but maybe Dave does! I don’t know, but I do know not to trust anything Warren says!

    ReplyDelete
  34. ^^He's doesn't. None whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1:07: First, she did not knowingly lie. Her family told her she was part native American. In fact, her father's family had very little to do with her family because it was "common knowledge" that her mother was tainted by Indian blood. You'd have to have a rudimentary understanding of the history of Oklahoma to understand how common the belief that native American heritage was widespread was in the 1940s and 50s.

Second her claim had nothing to do with any college admissions.

Third, Agent Orange's father claimed he was of Swedish descent rather than German in order not to alienate Jewish tenants, and Corporal Bonespurs repeated this lie in his ghostwriter's "Art of the Deal."

But why let facts stand in the way of a a good piece of fiction?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Your own fiction is showing. The paperwork exists, and is available, where Warren claimed Native American status over and over.

Being from Oklahoma does not allow you to lie for political gain, sorry again. Warren's an old white lady who got special treatment masquerading as a minority. Since she's on the left, the left refuses to hold her accountable. We're familiar with this phenomenon from too many other cases to count; sufficient to say that the 'values' of the left are highly conditional at best.

This is why you lose. In your full court press hate marathon against Trump, you've allowed the real wackos to take over and your whole party is split. You've paid zero attention to kitchen table issues while letting the Junior Communist Girls Club to become your face.

So maybe plan for 2024? You stand no chance against Trump's support, which you go on galvanizing with your frothing craziness.

The Trump German heritage was long concealed by Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump Donald Trump repeated this version in The Art of the Deal (1987) but later said he is "proud" of his German heritage many many years before seeking office. Yes 2:15 lets not let the real facts be known.

So Trump cleared his heritage up long before office while Warren took hers with her into office. So 2:15 you lose again your facts don't add up.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Trump knew his heritage was German and lied. Warren thought her heritage was native American and so did her family. Big difference.

So why go after her for one unintentional mistake when Trump couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it?

    1. It's definitely not hereditary, but I suppose you were just trying for emphasis on your Trump-hating obsession.

The fact remains that, pretty much because of the left's free fall into lies and empty hysteria (Russia hoax, racism, etc.), Trump will always have been president. It's happening as we speak. Instead of coming up with a strategy, it's the gang or the girl power league or whatever.

Warren? A footnote whose only lasting fame will be her status as woke comedy relief.

  41. 3:26 think what you want but Trump never used his heritage as a political gaining point and he was also told by his Dad the same a Warren claims.

Now Warren tried to uses her family as an excuse to her claims of heritage and then used that to support and validate her stance in the political arena as someone special as in AKA Davids and so no matter what she says she is wrong and she was the one caught red handed pushing false information to better her political career which is something Trump didn't do. So get your real facts straight ya goof.

We know you're a Trump hater but that is no reason to be stupid as well.

    ReplyDelete
  42. ^^^^^^Ummmmm. Could you show me how Warren has used her heritage as a political gaming point or "to support and validate her stance in the political arena as someone special as in AKA Davids and so no matter what she says she is wrong and she was the one caught red handed pushing false information to better her political career?"

Warren didn't even have a political career until she ran for senate in 2012, and had the stupid Republicans let her head the CFPB, which is what she wanted, she would never have run for office.

Can you show me how she claimed preference as a native American in either of her two senate runs or how she is claiming preference now?

  43. Trump has screwed the economy over so much, he is begging The Fed for interest rate cuts. That is the monetary solution to a recession. Trump is admitting the economy is fucked and he needs the central bank to bail him out.
