TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER EXPLAINS VOTE TO CONDEMN PREZ TRUMP AND HOPES FOR MORE RESPECTFUL DISCOURSE!!!

Another take on this week's beltway drama from the top elected official in Kansas City who voted with his party but also reaches out across the aisle after he walked away from a tense debate on the House floor. Here's the word with a highlight of the section we believe is most important . . .

E.C. From D.C. -- Solving Real-World Problems with Concrete Solutions

Hello Friends,

Many of you may have seen me relinquish the chair this week as I presided over the House floor during the debate over a House resolution to condemn the President’s racist tweets. Like the vast majority of Americans, I’ve grown increasingly frustrated with the bickering and childish rancor that has poisoned our public discourse, and instead of being a part of the embarrassing show, I decided it was best to simply walk away.

While I would never walk away from meaningful fight that has a real impact on the people of the Fifth District of Missouri—I still voted to condemn the President’s despicable remarks—I refuse to participate in the “show” fights meant for the Twitter and primetime news. I firmly believe that if we are to come together as a nation, we must resist the urge to fight when listening and understanding is an alternate option.

I have spent my entire life working with people of all faiths and stripes in an effort to solve real-world problems with concrete solutions. If we’re going to solve the cataclysmic challenge of climate change, the prodigious problem of income inequality, or the evasive challenge of equal justice under the law, it is going to take all of us, Democrat and Republican, liberal and conservative, men and women, elders and youth. Fighting just for the sake of fighting will only further divide and distract from the real challenges we face as a nation.

And in the House of Representatives, we are doing some great things. Just this week, we passed the landmark Raise The Wage Act to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. This bill will impact up to 33 million American workers who have spent years working hard, playing by the rules, and trying to provide for their families on a wage that is simply unsustainable in every county in the country.

In our district alone, roughly 124,900 workers would receive, on average, an additional $2,000 per year. And the money isn’t going to the people at the very top, it’s going to working class people who will put it back into our community and help grow our local economy. This has been a battle we’ve been waging for a decade, and I couldn’t be more proud to tell you that we are one step closer to winning the fight for 15.

While this is a significant win for workers in our district and all over the country, there are still many challenges we must overcome as a society. I will continue to fight for our district while ignoring the petty quarrels and working to facilitate a more civil, respectful environment around the Halls of Congress. For if we continue to devolve and divide into two constantly warring factions, we will end up forgetting why the American people sent us here: to get things done.

Warmly,

Emanuel Cleaver, II
Member of Congress

  1. The house vote should have been tabled or, the President had a good point. They also need to look at the remarks from The Squad and show how those have incited negativity and division.

    1. ^^^^ The congressman did the right thing. I don't agree with The Sqaud but our government is about checks and balances, the House was correct even if Speaker Pelosi was out of order and her comments rightfully struck from the record.

  2. Maybe he should get his party in order and start doing their jobs they swore an oath on, like what the taxpayers want instead of what the dummocucks want.

  3. Does Cleaver condemn the anti-semitism by Rep. Omar? Do the people in his district realize that Cleaver voted for higher prices on everything and for higher unemployment by voting for a higher minimum wage?

  4. Proud of my Congressman, he did the right thing.

  5. Cleaver did what he has always done, straddle the fence. He has no balls to do anything one way or the other. When he votes, he votes the wrong way. When are the people in your district going to find a viable candidate to run against this clown.

  6. He reliquished the chair just like the district he supports in KC relinquishes job opportunities, and opportunities to be more upstanding citizens in the community who should quit killing each other and making them look like the stigma they for sure own!

  7. His letter would have been good if he'd stopped after the first paragraph.

    But, of course, he couldn't

  9. What I think about in raising the wage to $15 are all of the people that will now be paying more for the things that they need daily. Everything is going up in price and do you realize that when things cost more the amount of sales tax increases. On a one dollar item you pay $0.10 in sales tax approximately. When your prices are $1.50 then you pay $0.15 for the same stuff. Incremental tax increases. It's not that I don't want people to make money it's the "unintended consequences" forced on them that they fail to realize and are punished for. I do not have the right answer but this needs more thought and discussion. Look beyond the shiny object!

  10. Cleaver is a good man. The problem he has is that he thinks anyone in congress actually wants to solve problems. He should walk into pelosi’s office and ask her when was the last time she fixed anything. Same with the GOP
