TKC FACT CHECK: KANSAS CITY MAYOR-ELECT QUINTON LUCAS SILENT AMID JACKSON COUNTY PROPERTY TAX INCREASE CRISIS DESPITE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CAMPAIGN PROMISES!!!

First the facts, the Mayor of Kansas City does not have any direct control over property tax assessments but there are also a myriad of circumstances related to "affordable" housing that aren't a matter of City Hall policy -- That didn't stop Quinton Lucas from campaigning on the issue.

Now, as the deadline approaches for the biggest local property tax assessment increase in a generation, we can't help but notice the Mayor-elect is noticeably absent from the conversation.

To wit . . .

WHY WON'T THE MAYOR-ELECT SAY A WORD ABOUT RISING JACKSON COUNTY PROPERTY TAXES OR USE HIS INFLUENCE TO ADDRESS THE CRISIS?!?

More to the point . . .

WHERE'S MAYOR QUINTON?!?!

Make no mistake, this isn't hateration. We're actually attempting to "encourage" the mayor-elect to weigh in and share at least recognition of the hardships which face a great majority of his constituents.

However . . .

Since his election victory he has been retweeting baseball news, nightclub reports and even soccer celebration but not a peep about the hot mess right across the street.

Reality . . .

If this disproportionate and unfair property tax increase moves forward without a word from Mayor-Elect Quinton Lucas then Kansas City voters can rest assured that they've been duped by a politico who likes the sound of his own voice on the topic of social justice far more than weighing in on real policy issues or standing up for so many of his constituents across the city who wanted leadership in the affordable housing fight and didn't vote just to help the career trajectory of an ambitious, eloquent and young, elected official.

Developing . . .

  1. Shhh. Quinton has to prepare his 2024 presidential campaign. He doesn't have time to talk about old and dusty houses or the broke residents of his city.

  2. Actually, I like Quinton as mayor. He's much better than the alternative. And if/when he does decide to say something, I'm pretty sure he'll have the last word. I hope this encourages him.

  3. An opportunity to show leadership is passing him by. He was definitely the lesser of two evils, but given our past as a community the bar is not very high. The clock is ticking, Quinton.

  4. The mayor really should say something about this. There will be no affordable housing with that incredible property tax hike

A vibrant, diverse, and inclusive city steeped in cultural enrichment requires high taxes. Besides, Big Sonia Day brings in lots of money doesn't it ?

  8. FACT: Quinton Lucas lives in an 18th & Vine area apartment building that is owned by the city of KCMO, and pays NO property taxes.

Yes folks, KC's new Mayor lives in subsidized housing!

  9. Lucas (and Justus) both ran campaigns talking about how much they cared about issues that neither of them even tried to address during their time in office.
And KCMO voters celebrated the amnesia campaign by electing Lucas.
Now the voters need to understand that Lucas really didn't mean much of anything he said any more than he cared about the issues that he ignored during his council term.
Here's the new guy; just like the old Sly!
    Dig deep suckers!
Anybody have a building proposal they want subsidized?
    Hahahahahaha!!

  10. 5:54 he won’t be living there long if he hasn’t moved by now, a perk that mysteriously showed up when sLIE was mayor is he can live anywhere he wants to because the city, I mean the taxpayers pay for his housing, now that’s affordable housing right there. I’m guessing since sLIE didn’t own anything in killa Shitty he had the rules changed to pay for his affordable housing so now Lucas will do the same.

  11. This may be a minor detail, but he is not yet the mayor.

    1. Yes. Well, why in the world would an incoming leader have anything to say about the biggest political crisis in recent memory?

Besides, it's a holiday and I'm sure there's a drink to be had.

  12. It shouldn’t take too long for even the dense residents of KCMO to realize they have another grifter in the mayor’s office.

  13. He’s busy getting drunk in his favorite gay bar out in Lawrence

  14. Look at that dumb look on his face, he looks stoned as hell. One eye open the other half closed. The guy is weird and scary but so is a majority of Kansas City.

  15. Quinton won't say our do much without permission from his bosses. They don't like infighting at freedom, inc. so he must've been told to keep his mouth shut.

  16. He would be mad if they raised taxes in Lawrence since that’s where he lives most of the year, he doesn’t own anything in killa shitty so it doesn’t hurt him one bit. Now we have to pay his rent where evar he lives thanks to sLIE.

  17. A few things, here.
    1. Tony, you're sounding like those people who still have not accepted that Hillary ran a dreadful campaign and lost.

    2. Cities set mill levies after they see how much the county is taking in. As broke as KCMO is, this outgoing or incoming council is unlikely to roll back the mill levy, (think cost of gasoline per gallon) because they are so far behind fixing shit that would just make it worse. So they WILL accept the windfall from the county, by just keeping the mill levy the SAME.

    3. We also saw that right after the election, the council including the losers--jammed thru approval to extend the trolley! Despite what voters said, and despite NOT getting the federal subsidy from the Trump administration's Dept. of Transportation. So now they have loaded up the city's "credit card", and guess what, they will keep the mill levy the same.

    4. As 7:59pm on July 3 noted, he is not yet the mayor!

    5. So Tony, stick to your knitting, babe. Let Lucas at least be inaugurated. Stop parking your past illegally in our present or our future. The campaign is over. Next! Fix this site so on the morning of July 4, it says July 4th! You "campaigned" on informing the public. So at least, do that much???!!! Stay out of Westport over the weekend. One can only imagine the idle yutes gambolling there with no money, and their mamas kicked them outta da unaffordable house with crappy AC to "go outside and play".

    6. You will note that Jolie JustUs hasn't barked about affordable housing either, and she is on equal legal footing as Q for the moment. Except she is looking for something else to run for or be appointed to. And totally unlike Mike Burke, who played so nice when he ran his meek little "uncampaign" against Sly, actually just showing up with a prayer card at Sly's events and mumbling, well, Burke got to be the developer of the largest most subsidized downtown hotel in KCMO history.

But Jolie went all negative. No crumbs for her. She's spending this holiday with her sewing machine, trying to refashion her big red tent of an illfitting blazer into a tarp--so she and Sly can leave town together under the big red circus tent --the Loser's Circus.
