TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY SPORTS RADIO SILENCE ENFORCED AGAINST ANY CRITICISM OF USWNT WORLD CUP VICTORY LAP PARADE OPPOSING PREZ TRUMP!!!
Across the dial, Kansas City sports radio talkers have CAREFULLY screened calls to prevent most discussion and any real criticism of the U.S. women's soccer team.
After KK had a 79-year broadcasting career canceled over some dumb-ass family drama comment flub, any remotely political conversation simply isn't worth the risk for cowtown radio dudes desperately hoping to emerge from this small market.
To wit . . .
KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY SPORTS TALK FANS COMPLAIN TO TKC ABOUT SPORTS RADIO SILENCE CENSORSHIP!!!
Apparently, the desperate need to talk trash on ladies soccer has fanboys pondering the 1st Amendment.
Whilst corporate radio is not government and listeners are free to take their biz elsewhere, the complaints are still relevant inasmuch as the USWNT victory has been politely ignored in Kansas City despite an EPIC weekend celebration that allegedly drew 10K screaming (drunk) fans into the downtown loop.
Here's a quick word from one of our favorite fanboys:
"It's just not fair that we've been told to limit any criticism of Megan Rapinoe and the women's team. They seem pretty adamant about their views and that's great. But the conversation is one sided and most Kansas City stations would rather avoid a discussion than risk anybody saying anything impolitic. That's not the Kansas City sports radio I know and love where listeners have freedom to talk about hot button issues and the real world because it's in the context of conversation about a game that unifies everyone.
"There is no room for disagreement. It's sad because ultimately it means there's less time to discuss women's sports in general and that just drives people to embrace their own bubble and ignore the changing world instead of searching for opinions that might challenge their own and give them a new way of looking at things . . . "
It's not like there isn't a local angle here . . .
- Equal pay issues are akin to Kansas City's ongoing "Fight For $15" minimum wage debate that has both strident proponents and detractors with opposing data sets worth considering.
- Certainly both lady soccer supporters & critics might find common ground in celebrating Kelley O'Hara who picked up a flag that was dropped during the 2019 World Cup title celebration.
- And given that MSM acknowledges: "Lesbians Won The Women's World Cup" there's an opportunity to discuss the rise of LGBT athletes and their increasing acceptance.
Instead, the vast majority of Kansas City sports talk has refused to discuss any aspect of the American cultural milestone except to offer high praise for the P&L District Sunday booze fest and the hope for another round.
And so the conversation moves to social media wherein right-wing drunk uncles & progressive angry aunties can troll their friends, family & coworkers until they're unfriended or blocked whilst sports radio talkers sit around and wonder why fewer people are listening.
