TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! JERMAINE REED CLINGS TO 18TH & VINE AMERICAN JAZZ MUSEUM LEADERSHIP BUT MANY 3RD DISTRICT LEADERS DEMAND HIS DEPARTURE!!!

They're playing traveling music for outgoing Councilman Jermaine Reed but he's not listening as he continues to march to the beat of his own drummer. Sadly, it sees like the young politico might go out on a sour note.

Yes, your bad puns are better than TKC but here's the important line . . .

INSIDERS WORK BEHIND THE SCENES TO MOVE DEPARTING COUNCILMAN REED OUT OF HIS LEADERSHIP ROLE FOR THE COSTLY & EMBATTLED AMERICAN JAZZ MUSEUM!!!

Check this recent message as the fight for positions in the new Administration are reaching a fever pitch . . .

"He had his chance and he wasted it. If there's any future for this District it doesn't belong with the FORMER Councilman. In fact, there's a need for a total house cleaning and keeping Mr. Reed simply reinforces the status quo. If we're going to try something new, we need to give a different group of people a chance to make the place work. I don't see progress with Jermaine Reed still trying to exert his influence. There are plenty of other local efforts where his talents can be utilized more effectively."

And so . . .

Remember that the Museum recently endured a total leadership change.

For context, it's also worth remembering that KCMO has given $100-MILLION to the entire 18th & Vine Jazz District since 1990 and there is still no viable profit model for the party place that has grown increasingly violent in recent years.

Accordingly, with about $7-MILLION given to the district last year and even more funding under consideration . . . The role of the outgoing Councilman becomes more important as many East Side residents are working hard to change the tune of 18th & Vine as the new administration of Mayor-Elect Quinton Lucas prepares its solo performance.

Developing . . .

  1. Nobody at the AJM did much but run up huge tabs on the taxpayer dime and leave the place as broke as a joke. A jazz museum just isn't going to attract a big enough crowd of people to justify the extravagant budget. If it's going to be saved, they're going to have to scale back dramatically and nobody wants to hear that.

    1. Jazz in a war zone? No thanks.

    2. Should have shut the whole place down with Cheptoo. If they haven't made a profit in 20 years, it's unlikely that very much will change.

  2. Jermaine is just trying to get a new Escalade as a going-away gift.

  3. AJM needs to look at replicating the success that the NLBM has earned. They don't rely on parties, admissions or big crowds, they are smarter about securing sponsorship opportunities and marketing tie-ins. They are partnering with Hollywood productions while the jazz museum is thinking about cookouts or playing next to a gravesite. It's ridiculous, there just isn't the right leadership there and there never has been.

If Jermaine has some good ideas, let's hear them. Because Jazz actually has a lot of very wealthy fans who pay top dollar to see it but KC is stuck in an old mode of thinking that doesn't know anything about managing brand asset rather than just standing in front of a carnival ride.

    1. ^^^^ Damn good comment @9:45. Wish there was more discussion of this in more places rather than just the same old demands for money.

  4. Jermaine is a dolt! An arrogant back stabbing SOB who has pissed off everyone he has ever met. Jermaine was removed by his council colleagues from the AJM board. Then he was further exposed for spending more money on travel than any other council member ever! During his run for mayor it was discovered he lied. He never actually finished college!!! He only ran for mayor to raise his profile and increase his name recognition in hopes of landing a plumb job afterward. Who would ever hire this jack ass? Move on Jermaine. We are sick of you! Go away.

  5. As long as there's a limitless supply of taxpayer money and the demand that "we get our fair share", and as long as the only "qualifications" for the Jazz Museum staff are who you know and what you are, nothing much is going to change.
Just talking off the top of your head without having the slightest knowledge of how to manage something, and more talking without making anything happen, and a total lack of results, and endless excuses may be fine for an unaccountable neighborhood association president, but it's ridiculous that the KCMO elected keep shoveling millions into a "project" that could be better managed by a group of elementary school kids.
Endless fighting over "who's in charge" and who gets what.
Reed's just one of the countless examples of taxpayer-subsidized incompetence.
Who at 12th and Oak have the guts to finally demand some change?
And a good start would be be cut off the funding.

  8. ^^He and his posse of about 12 people have all gone underground. He claims his wife can't deal with all the haters whatever that means. I think a lot of it was due to him getting placed in Facebook jail all the time and people with real jobs tired of his blowhard crap.

  9. "There are plenty of other local efforts where his talents can be utilized more effectively." I was not aware that he had any talents except for self promotion. If there are others, identify them please.

  11. Recall Reed... I know I still hate him as much I as I did 8 years ago. Ready for him to return to his pre-politico pukes existence.

  12. Reed is trying to play his blackness into a high paying part time position on the board, he has been the biggest part of the problem down there, running around all cocky acting like he’s the hero when he’s caused more problems and bad publicity. The whole jazz museum has been a money scam for the cleaves buddies and they don’t want the public to know that. Reed thinks he should be at the table and they don’t want or need him.

  13. Jermaine Reed is looking for an income, plain and simple.

  14. Jermaine is dishonest, constantly plays the race card, and is only slowing progress with wasteful proposals

  15. ^^^^^
With those kinds of "qualifications", surely there's a cushy six-figure gig to be found somewhere in the vast wasteland of Jackson County/KCMO "government".
Look at the "managers" and "executives" there now and take a really good look at the salaries, benefits, and retirement plans.
And look at the performances and "results" for the taxpayers.
    Reed would fit right in!

I'd like to see the AJM and the 18th & Vine district to continue, although I will continue to avoid the area (I'm white, and I don't want what they have for me there. If that makes me racist, then I'm racist). I'd like that area to survive to give the "people of color" an area to let loose, so they'll be less likely to vandalize and generally drive people ( and $) away from the areas that KC is known for; Mainly Westport and the Plaza).
If this area could somehow survive w/o taxpayer funds, so much the better. Maybe bring a"smooth jazz" radio station back to KC, and advertise the AJM? Maybe advertise the AJM on the XM station? I be don't have the answer.

  21. The amount of devastation Jermaine Reed as caused in the third distribution - largely while certain people like Freedom, Inc., Urban Scummit, Urban League, Black Agenda Group, ENBUF, various Black (by Black, I mean shady AF) Clergy members and a host of others were patting this retarded councilman’s back - while simultaneously shaking down the 3rd District Council members. After 8 years - what is there to show for all of it:

    1. East Patrol misplaced outside of it’s service area boundaries occupying a neighborhood it refuses to be part of (and eliminating an entire 42-acres worth of owner occupied properties).
1a. The revolution will not be televised: 1. Robberies and crime in and around the East Patrol development area is a hot spot for crime and murder. Last murder happed at 28th Park/Wabash about 3 weeks ago.
2a. Black clergy member/police department Chaplin - continues to get enrichment from the City, who is now getting a commercial parking lot paved for by the City - particularly the Housing Department at the City of Kansas City’s Housing Department to be located at 27th Olive, which is a residential node (and across the street from a sea of available, unused surface parking lot aka East Patrol)
3a. 0% percent sustainable jobs from this project as promised for some community organizations to buy in.

    2. Sun Fresh Grocery & Aldi’s - fully funded by The City of Kansas City; both completely reliant on public dollars to operate (31st Linwood & 39th Prospect) - Both are crime hotspots. It’s touted as having failed financially in its first year - asking the City for more funding.

    3. Illegal and unauthorized name change of The Paseo to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (I signed the petition to correct this disgraceful project).

    4. Stop lights removed around the 3rd District without any community involvement from whatsoever.

    5. The unsolved murder of Jimmy Townsend, who owned the Greed Duck; and all of his properties are now in foreclosure. (This is related to Jermaine Reed’s handlers who wanted the Green Duck building.

    6. The Green Impact Zone - which had no impact at all, except a handful of Congressman Cleaver cronies got paid handsomely, as a result. Jermaine Reed played an integral role in that - being a Cleaver crony, himself.

    7. Jazz District & Museum fail. The bleeding won’t stop. While virtually nothing is left there of historic quality - they continue to refer to the district as historic while the buildings continue to collapse, catch fire and be destroyed by the City - while simultaneously infusing emergency cash to the district every three months. (Not to mention that the area continues to see its fare share of shootings)

    8. An entire part of the district went largely ignored over the past 8 years. If you want to see what real poverty looks like - travel east to Norton, Chelsea Van Brunt, Myrtle, Indiana, Cleveland.

    9. His “I got the power” declaration in 2011 has manifest itself in his behavior. While he bills himself as a unifier - he’s act and behaved in an intensely divisive manner for much of his term as Councilman. He epitomizes the suggest that “when a Black man gets a suit - he starts trippin’.” Now that he’s allowed himself to be used by the usual suspects - their bashing him - and he has a sense of entitlement.

Overall, Jermaine Reed is a name nobody will remember in six months. Despite all of the smiling photo ops, kissing babies and and handshaking, he hasn’t made many true friends. I guess it’s true what they say - you are the company you keep. If he’s being billed as two-faced, backstabbing, lying, con-artist - well, check his inner circle: Alvin Brooks, Congressman Cleaver, John Miles...

  24. Good Lord, the guy was one councilman out of 12, you people make him seem like some 3rd world dictator. There was absolutely nothing that he voted on that Quinton Lucas didn't also endorse. So his voting record isn't really that controversial at all. I may not agree with Jermaine's approach to the community but I don't question his dedication. The jazz museum and all of 18th & Vine were in financial trouble long before he was elected and the problems are getting worse. But I don't blame somebody for trying to help.

  25. All of the districts need to be divided up. It's past time KC allowed these racial divisions to rule our city. Allot the district by population not old 1950's racially charged dividing lines.

  26. There are a couple of good places near Vine. Gordon Ramsey did a great visit when he was there, probably helped the place more than any politician.

  27. Maybe KCMO will get some national publicity like Baltimore. Our leadership needs to lead. Mr. Clever, Sly James and Mr Reed, what have you done to address the murder crisis? What is the cause of this crisis and what can be done here???

  28. Compared to most, Reed did an average job. He was okay but not teh best or the worst.
