TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! INSIDER: FUTURE MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS WILL INEVITABLY BE FORCED TO SELL EPIC DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY STADIUM TO VOTERS!!!

During the camapign for mayor, Quinton Lucas said "we don't need" a downtown stadium and offered a clear rebuke to a developer-focused vision of Kansas City.

But people say a lot of things.

To wit . . .

AN EPIC AND TOP RANKING KANSAS CITY INSIDER REVEALS THAT QUINTON LUCAS MUST GET ON BOARD WITH THE PLAN FOR A DOWNTOWN STADIUM AS THE ANCHOR FOR CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT STIMULUS!!!

Here's the word . . .

"What else is there? People aren't going to vote for schools or lower rent or any of the other stuff he really cares about. But bringing the Chiefs & Royals Downtown is probably the only thing that will excite voters in the next few years. We're looking down the long end of a recession so the jobs will be desperately needed. He might even be able to finagle greater minority participation than the token efforts that are always sold to the public. But the fact is, given that current tax climate and the electorate now soured on expensive living space. A downtown stadium is the only big ticket item with the kind of numbers to be competitive.

Everything else is a no-go."

A few more considerations:

- An East Crossroads Stadium closer to 18th & Vine already has support among many African-American leaders.

- A horrible baseball/football arena would garner even more support if Team Clark Hunt is able to rig the Super Bowl victory that everyone expects in 2020.

- Royals' World Series glory and Chiefs hype still dominate the minds of local voters. Meanwhile, for the most part tax fighters & Bernie Bros. socialists make great arguments against corporate welfare but have a tough time influencing election outcomes.

And so . . .

Kansas City might not want or need this monstrosity but make no mistake that the plans are already underway and the inexorable turnabout of Quinton Lucas on this type of development scheme is all but assured.

Developing . . .

This should have been done under Sly. He would have been able to pass it much more easily than pre k funding. We would be developing more jobs as we speak instead of looking at constant crime.

The missing piece?

If this happens, rest assured that Kansas City would be no less than 4 years away from bankruptcy and our bond rating would plunge into a dumpster fire. Maybe that's the plan all along but this would speed it up miserably.

Streetcar extension connecting downtown, river market and the plaza. KC already is the capital of the midwest but that would seal the deal.

Fire Frank While and I'll vote for it!

For God's sakes, you have a world-class facility that has never existed before or since the Truman Sports Complex! It is and still the only dual Sports facility in the world! So yes let's tear it down after all we are 25 years behind the norm. Everybody else built their downtown's and Arenas 25 years ago now we're just now getting around to it like it's some new great idea they thought up. Why not treat the complex much the way the land was treated around the speedway? I have no idea why neither Sports owner or the county as ever even considered developing the land on the sports complex. Can you imagine several little bars and restaurants and the food truck area with outside seating. On game days or after the game people could just walk over to the bars and walk to the the stadiums. It's the same concept by then putting it down town

STOP TRYING TO PUT A STADIUM DOWNTOWN

what a waste of money and land. We have a great stadium that nobody attends now, don't waste money by building one downtown that nobody will attend. Pathetic, stop it

So don't we already have a bunch of shit we can't pay for?

The last thing the taxpayers of Kansas City need is to be burdened with another huge tax supported entity. I'd be interested to see just how many of those so called supporters are people who don't outside of sales tax add anything to the operating budget of Kansas City. The two ballparks are nowhere close to falling down and are located in an area that can handle the increase traffic flow better than any downtown location could.

Besides the taxpayers were told, "If you let us build the Sprint Center we will bring you another professional ball team." Well we all have seen how well that worked out haven't we?

You all got sold on a new airport and the real cost of that still hasn't been forthcoming or known yet.

Appears the T-Bones can't make it without huge handouts in tax money either as the owner is looking to dump them.

Sure many will say these teams are good for the economy but so far that hasn't been proven to me because if we didn't have the teams people would be out spending their money on other things and things that might be a better investment for the whole family. And then those that can't really afford it wouldn't be doing so.

I have never been a fan of tax backed business. Explain to me how it is fair for certain groups and people to get taxpayer money handed to them so they can make more money off of it while the taxpayers have to just keep paying and paying while most of the time getting really nothing in return for it.

You homeowners and small mom and pop operations, when was the last time you were short of money or going broke but couldn't afford to do a remodel that the city jumped up and handed you money to pay off your bills or build a new place?

The city needs to stop handing out money for development. It fails everytime they do so. Just look at the latest from 31st and Prospect that can't again support itself and many including myself said adding taxpayer money to it was a bad idea. The city needs to focus on running the city and let the developers get their money from lenders who will back the project if it is a good one.

Tif's and abatements should be ruled as unfair practices thereby creating true playing fields in the developing world in cities everywhere.

TOP PHOTO -- CONCESSION SALES

On the heels of the airport terminal fiasco, KC developers push more "infrastructure as jobs program" voodoo!!!

Anonymous said...

Fix the streets.
At least try to get the murder rate under some control.
When that's done, maybe give the voters a call.
Hint: No need to check your voicemail!
Such a ridiculous suggestion once again shows who REALLY runs KCMO.
Lucas is just the latest front-man.

The only reason they want the downtown stadium is toy train, since it will nevar get out of downtown they just want to say look at us we’re so progressive, we have this 2.2 mile toy train that will take you to the ballpark. It’s sick really, sinking hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars into a novelty that doesn’t do anything for the rest of the city. It’s almost like building a wall around the inner loop to keep the haves in and the have nots out. I’m starting to truly believe that this is the purpose behind all this.

Anonymous said...

We had the easiest to to use airport in the world....we have the only dual stadiums set up in the world.
We have a murder, infrastructure problems and an unaccredited school district problem that is driving working tax payers out of the city.
We should fix up what we have to 1st world standards.

The sewers aren't going to fix themselves, though I don't think you need to worry about the Environmental Polluting Agency for a while.

Infrastructure doesn't get repaired because it's actually seen as a waste of money.

DramavilleKC said...

Of course, the billionaire owners will cry poverty and ask the beleaguered taxpayers to pony up the majority of the money.

When will the improvements to both stadiums actually be played off?

Won’t happen. You really have to be stupid to even want a stadium anywhere near downtown.

Anonymous said...

I honestly want a downtown baseball stadium and have for pretty much all my life. Downtown baseball stadiums actually do generate revenue unlike month long art festivals at swope park, street cars, etc.

The chiefs can stay where they are. We need to split the teams

Anonymous said...

I cannot think of a worse reason to move those stadiums downtown than "It will increase employment." It will enrich some developers and construction companies temporarily. It will cause a lot of tax paying private businesses to lose their locations for the stadiums and for the vast amount of parking required for this stadium. That real estate will sit idle most of the time and the lost property taxes are going to hurt the schools, libraries, emergency services, etc.

Troy Schulte is the one pushing this. It is his way of keeping in good graces with the Chamber of Commerce in hopes that he doesn't get pink slipped by Quinton.

How come you people aren’t pissed about the $500 million tax dollars spent on a new football stadium in Columbia, MO for the University of Missouri?

Lots of genius comments here that are not approving of this proposed fiscal FUBAR.

If the Kcorrupt Kcrumbling Kcrimmie Kcowtown gets a stadium, or two, moved to downtown....WATCH THE DOWNTOWN DOTTE GAIN A BUNCH OF BIZ RELOCATIONS!!! So, go ahead, send the Ka-Ching to KCK....Minnesota Avenue has available spaces....and room to build more!!!

Eewww. You sound like a tranny! Get back on your BathHouse buttboiz sack!

Clark Hunt's brother, Lamar Jr owns some downtown Dotte properties. Hope a nice family like his reaps even bigger ROI if stadiums go downtown KCMO. Plus, Joe Reardon's friend, Mayor Alvey, could easily entice Rockhurst Mafia moguls and other money men to get their really good deals on vacant and under utilized structures. Hey, NO EARNINGS TAXES, either!

12:03 actually we are. We ripped that apart a long time ago but you know those MU fans all money and no brains.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately there's nothing any of you goons can do to stop this from happening. It's done. The fans want it, and moneyed interests want it, so it will happen. Cry and bitch on here all you want, it's all you're good for anyway, it won't change a thing!

^^^ you’re an idiot

Having the baseball stadium out in the middle of nowhere next to abandoned industrial parks if fucking embarrassing and inconvenient to everyone and has hurt the royals on attendance. There's plenty of half ass fans living downtown who'd go to a game if they could walk to it. Sports makes its money on the casual fan, not the hardcore old fans who fear downtown baseball because of parking

Anonymous said...

Super Dave slugs out another great post right out of the ballparks here.

Anonymous said...

I think Super Dave hit it on all points. Why are we giving billionaires tax dollars when we have working class folks who can barely make ends meet. As mentioned, where are the tax breaks for the working class? How is giving Loews 10s of millions of dollars to finance their hotel build going to help the middle and lower class succeed?

I love the Chiefs and Royals as much as any fan in KC. However, the Hunts and Glass families have been getting sweethearts of a deal for decades. If they feel they need a downtown stadium then do what every other tax payer in the country does: Gather your downpayment, go to your bank/lender, apply for the dollar amount you need to finance your building and do whatever it is you need to do to build it yourself. That's what I have to do. That's what every tax payer in the county has to do. Billionaires should not be exempt from that. Instead we want to continue subsidizing the stuff at the cost of tax payers given there exists no evidence that using public funds to finance these types of deal are of any benefit to the public.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That word can be used to accurately depict our elected officials.
