TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! JACKSON COUNTY LEGISLATURE UNITED IN STRIPPING SOLE PROPERTY TAX DUTIES FROM ASSESSOR!!!
Another vital function of Jackson County government threatens to be taken away from Exec Frank White.
To wit . . .
A MAJORITY OF JACKSON COUNTY LEGISLATORS WANT THE MISSOURI STATE TAX COMMISSION TO INTERCEDE AMID THE CURRENT PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT CRISIS!!!
A letter without any context was posted to one of our favorite community news websites but hasn't yet earned much notice despite its significance.
Right now it's important to highlight the money line from the leader of the Legislature . . .
"It is concerning to me the law may not have been followed, and as a result, the burden to ensure that valuation increases have been done correctly has shifted to the property owners.
"Finally, as you know, the State Tax Commission “shall exercise general supervision over all the assessing officers of this state, over county board of equalization and appeal in performance of their duties” under Missouri law, §138.430, RSMo. I’m requesting that you fulfill your legal mandate by exercising your statutory authority and take all necessary action to assist in fixing this problem, including but not limited to , remedying the Assessor’s lack of physical inspections for those properties whose valuations increased more than 15%. I thank you in advance for your assistance with this matter and welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you further."
Jackson County Legislature, Chairman
Background . . .
Jackson County had to strip COMBAT away from Exec Frank White and now they're using the same tactic with the assessor's office.
The danger is that property tax assessment is basically the only function of County government and if they can't do this job . . . There really isn't much justification for keeping the government structure intact . . . More likely . . .
THE MISSOURI STATE TAX COMMISSION TAKING OVER PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENTS WOULD MAKE EXECUTIVE FRANK WHITE NOTHING MORE THAN A LAME DUCK!!!
Again, this move has a majority on the Legislature and so these politicos are pleading with the State for rescue from a politico who has, reportedly, created a metro wide crisis.
