The Kansas City Book Tour

LITERARY TOURISM: KANSAS CITY, MO

Newbie hot take . . .

The art community that’s always been pretty vibrant here. And I’m not just talking the murals in the Crossroads or our stellar art museums, but we also have some pretty unique literary experiences.

And so we ask . . .

IS IT NOW TOO PRETENTIOUS FOR KANSAS CITY DENIZENS TO READ LITERATURE IN PUBLIC?!?!

Given that most people are just checking gossip on their phone and only women and the homeless have time to read the classics . . . It's a Sunday question we're posing to our local brain trust.

  1. Well, since nobody is reading the Kansas City STAR, I would say, YES!

Or how about we have Tony and Chuck and SuperDave and Phil Cardarella do live reads of posts on TKC!

    Please, tell us where...
as long as it has free parking...

How about in front of the closed Tivoli Theatre in Westport, which was the last bastion of watching art films and National Theatre Live in KCMO?

Note, coming in November, right after our great KIFF Ks. International Film Festival, those National Theatre Live performances will be coming to Glenwood Arts, 95th and Mission. Hooray for Brian Mossman and his team, for working with the great Jerry Harrington to import that gem.

It's all part of the third great migration:
    First, the wagon trains.
Second, White Flight to Joco in the 60's.
And third, Frank White Flight, c. 2019, Tracy Thomas,--the cultural migration of thinking people and overburdened and cuckolded taxpayers one festival, one outing, one public reading of literature at a timee...

  2. The Central Branch KCPL, third floor, would be a great place to sit and read if every chair were not already occupied by a bum pretending to.

^^The middle class dreams of a world without poor people, but will do nothing to help end poverty.

I tell poor people to be as visible as possible, because the middle class will try to pretend that they don't see you, so they can pretend that you don't exist.

  4. What's next, burning books?

You tell poor people to be as viable as possible? Why don't you give them some advise that will help to lift them up? Instead, you tell them to be obnoxious? Why would you do that? That doesn't help anyone. What are you doing to help poverty?

  5. 4:00, obviously I see the bums occupying chairs in the library, or I wouldn't have mentioned them. So your post makes no sense as usual. BTW they're bums not working poor. Otherwise they'd be out looking for jobs and not sucking from the public teat all day.

As a nation we have spent trillions on welfare. That has done nothing to end poverty because it just created a hereditary dependent class who have little work ethic. But most still own color TVs, refrigerators, AC units, cars, Obamaphones etc. Poor people in other risk their lives to get in on that.

  6. 5:07 you're explaining something to a clown who has the knowledge down pat when it comes to scamming the system.
