Sunday Second Look: Kansas City Mayor Sly James Launches Autobiography

Another look at the parting shots of the lame duck Mayor and his upcoming love letter to himself . . .

A Passion for Purpose: Building Cities for our Children

He has been the face of Kansas City for eight years. Now, as Sly James completes his second and mandatory final term as mayor, he looks back on a life that took him from his upbringing in a segregated working-class neighborhood to military service in the Marines, a groundbreaking legal career, and ultimately the 29th floor of City Hall.

Launching his new autobiography, A Passion for Purpose, the 67-year-old James sits down with co-author Sean Wheelock to discuss his career and the life experiences that have shaped his values and views—including his fierce advocacy for children’s literacy and education. He leaves office as a strong believer in the efficiency of city government and advocate for implementing its politics to the state and federal levels.
Royals Senior Vice President and General Manager Dayton Moore offers introductory remarks.

He's very impressed with himself judging by that photo. Too bad the crime rate doesn't reflect his expertise.

Maybe he can marry Gail Beatty. With zero intelligence they are a perfect match for each other.

"Building cities for our children"?

Hypocrite, you disowned one of your sons for being gay.

Remember when Byron just a few weeks ago was defending James?
But then Byron is about as clueless as they come. In some states they' even say he's looney bin bound.
Byron flip flops in his words more than his lover Cooper Anderson does.

As Mike Murphy said to Charles Wheeler about his book, "Doctor in Politics", supposedly the first of 52 volumes, "Charles, I must say: Once you put it down, you can't pick it up again. It's the cure for insomnia."

Sly's book intention is a twist on the old Monopoly card, "Get out of jail free".
His goal is to land some appointment that takes him away from his rental home here on Union Hill, 108 E. 30th St. to WDC. Just a few problemos.

He is no Betsy Devos, Trump's Education Secretary. His goofball plan, to interfere with public schools by a municipal tax was roundly defeated and in fact ridiculed by those in public education.

And, Kamala Harris is Hillary 2.0. Mean. Not going to be elected. So there's that.

And yes, as someone mentioned, smug and smarmy photo does not test well.

Give him a break, Funkyhoosier. At least his pose in that photo makes him look gay.

Slie must have been a terrible Marine, to have been such a rotten mayor.

He has been the farce of Kansas City for eight years.

Welcome to Killer Shitty

The coming disasters of the hotel and airport will carry his name into infamy for 50 years.

No wonder the punch bowl on the 29th floor of city hall is empty.
Sly's been guzzling all the "Sly James is wonderful" crap himself.
And reading, and worse believing, all his trumped up press.
Sly will learn very soon that once he no longer has the ability to shovel truckloads of tax money out the door to his sycophants, contributors, and friends, the phone will stop ringing.
Maybe the book will cause a great groundswell of support for him to run for governor...or maybe even president!
A James/Pander ticket!
Delusion on steroids!

Since KCMO is the type of city SLie builds nobody would want to live in his cities.
