Kansas City Star Digital Subscription: Ripoff

LAST MONTH KCTV5 newsies offered a comprehensive report on a transgender suspect arrested, a bystander recording who was ticketed along with info about the alleged racist threats the suspect was making against Asian store owners. We talked about the run-in and increasingly dangerous streets near Midtown.

Admittedly, the arrest isn't pretty but while other news outlets offer more context and conversation on the topic. Kansas City's so-called paper-of-record merely slaps the clip online with minimal detail or narrative THAT KCPD HAD ALREADY PROVIDED and serves up to weekend readers long after the fact. All this for a top dollar subscription that's way more expensive than many online streaming options which offer far more viewing pleasure.

And so, in our humble opinion, this "data-driven" journalism is anything but and reveals the newspaper neglecting their branding when it comes to telling the whole story . . .

You decide . . .

Police forcibly arrest a person on a Kansas City sidewalk

Roderick Reed, 52, shot video of the May 24 arrest of a person identified by police as Bryan E. Hill, 30, of Kansas City. Hill was arrested on suspicion of trespassing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

  3. Yep.
They only show what puts the best spin on the incident.

    Remember the Covington boys.

The cops should have taken his shoes off to make sure that...oh...never mind.

  5. I have yet to witness an arrest that is nor forcible in one way or another. It's snowing hard in what's left of the editorial Board.

  6. Pretty much nobody is left of the Star's editorial board, Lance.

  7. Editorial Board pisses many no matter what they write.
Which is good as more people cancel because of that.
Let them hold on to tradition and editorialize their way to bankruptcy.
Hope they add more op-Ed people.
Nothing cutting edge or modern about anything they do.
Dissolve the board... that would be cutting edge...but no one their thinks like that.
To hell in a hand basket... there thee goes.

  8. The Star EB is desperately trying to create a buzz and become relevant, but sorry it's a non-story. Hopefully the KCPD Chief will have the good sense to do what everyone else does, ignore the Star.
