KANSAS CITY POWER MOVE OF THE WEEK: WALDO PARTIES AMID POTHOLE FIX!!!

A snarky social media post and and followup from news organizations ACROSS THE WORLD accomplished a nice bit of public shaming targeting City Hall.

Now the neighbors of this community use the repair as an occasion to enjoy a not-so-small victory over the holiday weekend.

Fox: Waldo neighborhood throws ‘graduation’ after pesky pothole finally gets patched

Money line:

“I thought, ‘What I can I do to have a little fun?'” Frank Sereno said. “Everyone is always complaining about the potholes, but complaining doesn’t seem to be getting anything done. So I said, ‘I want to keep it top of mind.’ I know my fellow Waldo neighbors are just as disgusted as I am so I said, ‘Let’s just celebrate it’s birthday. It’s third birthday.'”

Again, our blog community has nothing but high praise for this effort and we hope that residents take notice that KCMO is slow to respond to 311 but have a low tolerance for public disgrace.

Meanwhile, there are at least 1400 more KCMO potholes that merit this same kind of work.

  1. 1400?

    More like 5,000.

I think they stop counting after they've been waiting for more than a year. That's what I've heard from 311. You have to update the complaint.

    1. KC at its best. They might want to think about a "Fun" way to complain about all of the subsidized and dangerous housing coming to the neighborhood.

    2. ^^^^ Good point. A $10 pot hole fix just silence any real complaint from that neighborhood for the rest of the year. It was funny but selfish. I'm sure they need more repairs than just the pothole but they not how a contentious relationship with the city now. They're going to need a lot birthday cake to get things fixed in the future.

Too bad, it was a neat stunt. I would have been impressed if Quinton Lucas would have shown up. But nope, just the local news and a throwaway Friday story.

    3. ^^ TOTAL B.S.

It doesn't look like the neighborhood is going to sit around on their hands after this. I bet they've got a few more tricks up their sleeve. This looks like a good start to these folks getting more involved.
