Enjoy Kansas City Fringe Fest FAIL 2019

Locals with artsy friends are expected to pay top dollar to witness this collection of local "talent" and endure the unfair pricing scheme.

Meanwhile, very few locals realize that the marketing wizards behind this effort are also responsible for OPEN SPACES -- Which cost KCMO $1-MILLION bucks and counting.

There are a few gems of artistic expression hidden beneath an array of garbage that has earned more taxpayer subsidy than most locals realize.

Here's more background on this week's creative-class tradition . . .

Fringe Festival KC is committed to accepting artists without jury or censorship. We accept artists on a first come, first serve basis. Our five mile footprint spans through the cultural corridors of KC from River North to Old Westport. We feature visual, film, and performing artists in venues ranging in size from small to large.

Our festival opens with a large Opening Night Party where artists preview their shows in rapid-fire succession and our fringe loyalists mark their programs for the can't-miss shows. Throughout the festival, you can count on Late Night on the Fringe events to meet, connect, and engage with participating artists and excited audiences. We culminate the festival with a celebratory Closing Night Party. We eat, we dance, we celebrate the wonderful success of our Fringe participants.

All audience members must have a button to access shows and galleries. The button is a one time, five-dollar purchase that allows Fringe Festival KC to adequately pay our artists and venue owners from ticket revenue.

  1. Artists kissing artists, the public will stay away in droves.

  2. I just want lower water bills instead of all these art shows.

  5. Fringe folks weren't responsible for the Open Spaces fiasco, Sly James, Jolie Justus, Megan Crigger and Dan Cameron were responsible for that train wreck!!

Wow, another failure in the vibrant, world class KCMO.

  7. ^^and yet it's not a failure whatsoever. Weird.

  8. I used to be a huge fan, once attended 13 events in a season.
This year, I spent an hour reading the program online, and was not interested in attending even one. Not even buying a $5 button or racing to Union Station to pay to park just to grab ten $10 tickets.

The fare has become more Mickey Rooney, "let's put on a play", with premises including zombies...by wannabes.

Plus of course, scolding and rants about trans-whatever, race-whatever, sexual orientation and identity-whatever. But not cutting edge. Not the "best and the brightest", which it used to be.

Many of KC's best theatre performers and producers have dropped out.And I don't see that people who "work the circuit" bringing in their shows are all that great, either. It's no longer presenting things that may tug at your heart strings, which to me is the very best reason to attend live theatre. It's more "RenFest". zzzzzzzz.

And for the record, Cheryl Kimmi, a lovely woman, the local founder, DID work on a well-paid contract coordinating the city's stupid Open Spaces. She didn't start it, she just worked there.

  9. I have to agree with Tracy's input on the whole thing. There's no longer anything of interest to make me want to attend their events.

  10. ^^You NEVER did anyway!! Who are you fooling?? You never, ever, make it out of Frogville! Go start a blog back there.

  12. ^^I do know for sure that you're stupid dave posting anonymously. AGAIN. So there's that.

    ReplyDelete
  13. ^^^And you post 3 in a row talking to yourself. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
  14. ^^and yet YOU responded to somebody talking to themselves three times in a row. Really, really weird.

  15. Tony please remove and ban these haters. That isn't Free Speech, that's just assholes being assholes.

  16. ^^Yes! Please start with stupid dave. He offends me!

  17. ^^^But you aren't real, remember? Weird.

  18. If you go be sure to wear your MAGA hard hat. Accepting artists without jury or censorship are artists not worth the sweat on your balls.
