Car Crash Kills Highway Cyclist Overnight

Local bike/walk advocates justifiably decry every incident where a cyclist is killed. HOWEVER, they rarely stress the danger that many locals invite when they ride or walk on passages intended for autos. Here's today's example from a dude who might have been "impaired" or not:

Bicyclist hit by car, killed on 210 Highway overnight

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle on 210 Highway early Sunday morning. KC Police were called to meet Sugar Creek officers at 210 Highway and N. Pleasant Avenue just after 1:00 a.m. Officers say a male was riding a Trek 21-speed bicycle westbound, on the eastbound (south) shoulder.

On wrong side of the road for starters.

^^^ Riding a bike at 1:00am might also be a contributing factor.

Did they interview Councilman Bunch (a/k/a Landslide Eric) about this and about how the nasty Auto drivers should be banned from the roads?

Sorry but bikes should not be on the roads with cars, unless they want to lower the speed limit to accommodate bikers. 210 hwy has a speed limit of 60 mph so this is not the first death and won't be the last sad to say.

Need protected bike lanes on all streets and highways.

No @9:09, we need the Interstate Ban on Bicyclists extended to all Federal, State, and County until the bicyclists begin paying taxes to build and maintain those roadways.

9:34 I was joking! I live close to Armour Blvd I hate the bike lanes.

The car driver being drunk might have also played a role. I agree that riding a bike at 1am along a busy road is putting your life on the line.

A 21 speed Trek at 1 am ? Sounds stolen. Homeless and meth heads do not have that nice of a bike.
