Double the time and a double take on Courthouse tactics that have a many local residents afraid that they'll no longer be able to afford their homes.

Just now . . .

KCTV5: Deadline for Jackson County property tax assessment appeals extended to Sept. 1.

The Jackson County Board of Equalization voted to extend the deadline for property tax assessment appeals to Sept. 1.

The extended deadline passed yesterday but after the meeting this morning, the BOE decided to give taxpayers more time.

Behind the scenes, remember that there has been an exchange of legal threats over tax decisions BUT NOW Courthouse opposition to Exec Frank White seems emboldened.

  2. This is terrible. If property taxes get capped how is City Hall going to be able to continue their reckless spending rampage?

  3. How has MSM not done a story on Frank's finances? I would think it would be warrant a whole news segment but no one will touch it. Recall Frank.

  4. Big deal, two extra days, the fat fake revs let their people down, Frank is more worried about making sure these taxes stick and can be billed on time. Frank has turned into sLIE jr. Worthless.

  5. WHAT recall Frank???? You idiots voted for him twice and you knew what he was like you just got caught up in his celebrity status. Even if you do get more time to file your appeal it's not going to make your tax go down. What idiot doesn't know how to file a appeal?

  8. Consider yourselves lucky, Jackson Countians! Clay County went through something similar, with two Commission member gutting the office that dealt with Property Tax Appeals, then falsely claiming that they planned to transfer other employees temporarily (and when the time came, blocking the transfers), and then the same two (guess who, folks) blocking an attempt to extend the deadline for appeals.

Result? Many, many Clay County taxpayers unable to appeal the substantial increases in their Property Taxes, and more cash pouring into he County coffers, ready to "mysteriously vanish".

    1. ^^^^^ True and true. Jackson County government is screwed up but we're not the only ones. Still it's hard to believe that this has gone so far, there's simply no excuse for a 400% assessment increase. In other counties, that kind of thing would be illegal.

  9. So for those of us who filed at the deadline can we continue to get more data and file an amended return?
