Blame Climate Change For For Kansas City Pothole Crisis And Broken Promises

This is to help our blog community read between the lines . . .

KCMO SEEMS TO BE SAYING: WITHOUT TAX INCREASES THE PLANET WILL DIE AND KILL YOUR CAR IN THE PROCESS!!!

Here's a bit more verbiage and description . . .

U.S. Cities Have a Pothole Problem. Global Warming Is Making It Worse.

Deets:

Potholes are an infrastructure problem compounded by limited city and state budgets and understaffed public works departments. Now, climate projections over the next few decades show the issue will likely get even worse, especially in Midwestern cities north of Kansas City.

"In general, it's the changing climate. When you have more water and temperature changes and, you know, a freeze-thaw cycle, that impacts the transportation network," says Tom Smith, executive director of the American Society of Civil Engineers. "And when you add that to the fact that we've got added congestion and depleted maintenance budgets that require not only state, but federal investment and private investment, you have a perfect storm."

Sadly, the only hope is more taxpayer cash . . .

"Greg Bolon, director of operations for Kansas City's public works department says Kansas City's public works department continues to test different asphalt materials and tools to make the road conditions better no matter the time of year, but he doesn't think "anybody's immune to the issues" that potholes present."

"Everybody understands that infrastructure needs help, but there's really no mechanisms to fund it other than the gas taxes, and most cities and states aren't willing to approve gas tax increases because nobody wants money coming out of their pockets," he says. "So it's kind of a vicious circle there: that the funding's not there nor are the resources. And it's going to be one of those things that's going to keep continuing to get worse until things are finally funded."

  1. Democrap's overriding imperative, never vocalized, is taking OTHER (working) PEOPLE'S MONEY and spending it, or giving it to supporters.

  2. How about spending funds on streets that are now going to streetcars and bike lanes.

  4. How about reducing tax breaks for developers so there's more tax money for infrastructure. Of course that's just the simple, obvious solution.

  5. And Turkey Lurky says the sky is falling. Give me a break, the climate is the same as it was thousands of years ago. Some summers hotter, some summers not so hot same with winter, spring and fall.

Fuck these guys. How about no more street cars and making people pay to ride them. If we have 25M visitors anally who all come to see the streetcar, make them pay $2. That is $50 to $100M in revenue annually.

  7. Just curious how the Golden Gate Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge are around 100 years old but we have to replace bridges every 50 years or less. Why cant we build stuff to last? Why don't when we build something there is an automatic fund for maintenance?

This is total BS. Taxes residents pay should and must be used to maintain infrastructure instead of funneling funds to developers, new airport we do not need, SLies vacation to Hawaii, failed feel good organizations, and a failed fair weather toy train.

  10. I think the goal is to make the streets so bad one HAS to ride the streetcar.

  11. midwestern austerityplan, coupled with city austerity due to the airport

  12. Johnson County is a mile to the west and they don't have an issue with pot holes or maintaining streets. Must be nice to be a leader in a liberal metropolitan city where you can just blame all your shortcomings and inefficiencies on climate change and other boogeymen

  13. there is a tree branch blocking a sign of an exit off i-35 downtown, another shit exit in the nutty exits-merges of the downtown loop. you will fuck up the buck o'neil bridge b/c most all the roads that lead to it are fckd up.

  14. river market needs new dumpster facilities, and a new 18" trench drain instead of sprinkling a bunch a pink shit all over the vomit that leaks across the parking lot so wettin your appetite for the fruits and vegetables. new 18" W 20'L trench drain just too big of an expense for the city budget and coordination staff.

  15. North Kansas City has eliminated a buttload of downtown parking to install Bike Lanes!

SUUUURE - That won't have any effect of Downtown Business volume will it?

  16. Limp-dicked City leaders caused this ENTIRE mess with deferred maintenance. Those monies were siphoned off for other slinky, sexy projects their Masters demanded. It’s that simple, people. You’ve been cucked yet again.

  17. ^^^ and the people of KCMO can thank themselves for the morons they voted to run this city - and looks like the next Mayor wont be any different than the last, or the funky fuckstick before him. You can build all kinds of shit in KCMO, you can also get vistors to come and visit at least ONCE, but the people who live here know the local and now County scams being played, so hopefully when the local and county government fuck you out of everything you have, ya might start thinking about how to make KC and Jackon county great again (oops its never been great which is why I got the fuck outta there) Good luck dumbasses.

  18. I just feel sorry for the cops and fire fighters in KCMO who are forced to live in the KCMO city limits, but I guess thats whats happens when you sell your soul to a union, and fuck tax payers over on a daily basis with a deplorable service (both departments) But hey selfless heros ya got your great pay, and pensions, and you get your union letter every election year to tell you who to vote for - selling your soul comes with consequences, enjoy your bragging rights with a mailing address that ends with Kansas City, MO which comes right before a zipcode which should read 00666 or 66600 depending upon weither you are living on the Liberty Mo border or the Lee's Summit boarder so your kids can attend school in Liberty or Lee's Summit. You soul selling MF's should put your rug roaches in the KCMO school district, Thats where you live and thats where you are required to work so get some class and learn how to serve the citizens of the city you claim to protect, learn how to be humble and not so fuckin selfish!
