And Now, One More Serving Of Sour Grapes From Kansas City Lame Duck Mayor Sly

That latest parting shot from Kansas City's former boss on his last day . . . Take a look:

Mayor Sly James and local schools reflect on the pre-K plan that wasn't

  1. Of COURSE it was his worst day in office because the electorate isn't as stupid as he would think or like. The electorate is fed up with endless TIF projects that continue to benefit big developers and take money away from schools and libraries. No surprise he'd be upset given they stepped on his gravy train. Good for the voters in this case.

  3. Quack Quack bye lame duck Sly. Try to keep your son out of prison. Don't forget all of the other things you duped everyone into voting for that was bogus. Where's our money Sly? Water treatment, infrastructure? Where did that money go??????

  4. The pre-K proposal was a stupid idea and terrible public policy that even all the school superintendents opposed.
And was just the latest example of someone who was all about himself and had no real idea or interest in actually governing a city.
And this was followed by the embarrassment of supporting Justus for mayor and then having to watch her get her butt handed to her.
Sly's going out at the bottom of his game.

Pre-K programs feel good but do not produce statistically significant academic results in anything but the shortest run. It's like teaching your child to walk a few months before everyone else -- it's an achievement that is clearly visible today but of limited value in a year.

Where pre-K does show long-term positive results is in eventual incarceration rates. But even that can possibly be attributed to interaction with non-family adults at an earlier age. There just isn't yet enough data to know for sure if it is the structure or the interaction.

Regardless, spending money on programs that have proven to not produce academic results shouldn't be paid for with tax dollars.

  7. Politicians just can't help wanting to be in the public eye as long as possible. They are drawn to publicity like a moth to light.

  8. ^^or sorta how you desperately want to give someone your worthless opinion constantly??

  9. @2:03, Milli the Kid, you're literally on here more than any other viewer. Puking your prog-mind garbo at every turn. Yet the adults here just ignore you like they always have when you opened you piehole.

  10. Once upon a time in Kansas City there was a city Councilman by the name of Jermaine Reed. Mr Reed posted on his City web portal that he had an MBA from a local college until the Chancellor from this college said he did not graduate. The portal was then corrected. Mr Reed also traveled on the City expense budget more than any other city Council member, year after year. Mr Reed also backed major City investments in 18th and Vine, the Linwood Grocery Store, MLK renaming, and the Jazz Museum. $100's of million dollars were wasted while basic KCMO services were ignored and the city Urban Murder rates soared to be among the highest in America.
Mr Trump, would you consider Mr Reed to be guilty of public corruption???

  13. I wish we could find out how much tax money sLIE cost us because of all the sweetheart deals he gave his developer buddies. He also is the only mayor to have over 1000 murders while he was mayor. Greed and murder is his real legacy.

  16. The real reason why this festering hog is upset is that no matter what he does, a younger, smarter, black man is going to do a far better job.

  18. I remember the Head Start program that was very successful UNTIL the poor kids were forced to attend their regular schools with sub-standard teachers. All that good preparation went right out the window because the kids lived in homes where no one read to them or encouraged them to learn. If the families don't keep the momentum going, there is no hope for these children.

  19. Can we please not see that mugging throw out a throwaway line
look again. He is trying various bs lines to justify his
    frankly unremarkable grasp of things.

Nobody is asking his advice on anything if you haven't noticed.
He thought the developers were his friends, no they just wanted
you to go along with their deals.

Rockhurst, please do better. Hotels and Tif and ambulance chasing
don't make for great economic prospects. Please don't let Sly
    talk to tech companies.
