TKC READER QUESTION: Kansas City Spending Too Much Cash On Stray Pets?!?

Here's a nice update on local progress and more services for doggies . . .

KSHB: Metro animal shelters construct new facilities to keep up with demands

Meanwhile, a TKC reader sends this question that we're throwing back to our blog community:

"TKC, with $18 million going to the new KC pet shelters and more money spent around the metro. Is there a cheaper alternative?!?!? Right now we've got far more money being spent on animals than the homeless and that doesn't seem right. I think we need to start talking about alternatives to these expensive "no kill" shelters. You've reported that there is a move to privatize these services but that seems to be just adding more cost to the total for taxpayers. Any suggestions for reducing the price would be great!"

You decide . . .

  1. Fuck the homeless, they are making a choice. These animals don't have that ability.

  2. In china they eat dogs. Solves the excess dog problem. In India they will not kill rats, which then consumes 20% of their grain and causes people to starve to death. Lets view animals as MUCH less than humans, and spend our money on humans NOT critters.

  3. "Right now we've got far more money being spent on animals than the homeless and that doesn't seem right." If "homeless" really means "bums," it seems right to me.

We have no legal or moral obligation to feed, clothe or shelter people who choose to live apart, singly or in groups, from the rest of society and make no effort to support themselves.
