TKC QUESTION: WHY DO KANSAS CITY LATINOS HATE QUINTON LUCAS?!?!

More than any other candidate for Mayor in modern history, Quinton Lucas has worked diligently to win the support of Kansas City's burgeoning Latino community.

Proof:

- Mr. Lucas has proposed an economic and racial justice platform that includes the offer of a KCMO Municipal ID Card which will provide residents identification regardless of immigration status.

- Mr. Lucas recorded a campaign commercial in Spanish as a groundbreaking outreach effort to local Latinos.

- Mr. Lucas has consistently expressed insight and interest into equitable housing and diverse neighborhoods like the Westside & Northeast in the midst of the current wave of gentrification.

Nevertheless . . .

KANSAS CITY LATINO LEADERS HAVE UNIVERSALLY REJECTED QUINTON LUCAS & PROUDLY ENDORSE JOLIE JUSTUS!!!

Sure, everybody loves a gringa and, after all, she is the familiar 4th District Council lady BUT the list of support she has earned from the leadership of the KCMO Latino community isn't just overwhelming. It's unanimous.

Proof:

- The KC Hispanic Biz PAC which is the political arm of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City has endorsed Jolie Justus.

- The KC Hispanic News Endorsed Jolie Justus in a nearly poetic editorial missive

- La Raza Political Club endorsed Jolie Justus for mayor LAST YEAR.

Moreover, Jolie Justus has even garnered the blessing of TKC's political mentor abuelita.

And yes, as the mere existence of this blog can attest, election season is filled with random malcontent Latinos complaining that they're not represented by their leadership. However, politically, the groups noted above represent THOUSANDS of people, longtime political donors and community residents going back more than 100 years. These associations are, in fact, the most accurate gauge of KCMO Latino political involvement.

Accordingly . . .

Some might ascribe the situation as Black vs. Brown rivalry but this is election posturing not street level bickering. These organizations are comprised of professional businessmen, lawyers and working people. All of these groups have some affiliation, connection or have ate least heard of Congressman Cleaver's Black/Brown coalition - A group that has worked to effectively create a bridge between neighboring African-American & Latino communities.

Nevertheless, as the final vote approaches what we're seeing is Kansas City's mediocre racially charged geopolitics start into motion and continue to hopelessly divide this town.

You decide . . .

  1. Pecking order politics again. Probably the opposition, not hate, is there for a lot of the same reasons that Mayor James is supporting Jolie. Also, your point about the 4th District is probably correct as well. It's likely they just know here better.

    1. Jolie has lived here, close to the neighborhood. Quinton just moved to town 4 years ago. It's as simple as that.

  2. Some good info here if you filter out all of the nastiness and B.S., really great that Quinton is reaching out. It's obvious that a lot of so-called "leaders" throughout KC are behind the times.

  3. Has the election brought out the worst in everyone? Of course, wouldn't be a real one if it didn't. but I think in the end the candidate have done their best to rise above it. There have been times when it got nasty but not as bad as others we've seen. Both Jolie Justus & Quinton deseve credit for that.

  4. My guess is that Justus comes before Lucas in the alphabet. And when little else differentiates the candidates, you go with what you've got.

  5. If he wears a sombrero this weekend, he's got my vote!

  6. And he changed his name to Lucas from Luquan to appeal to Latinos and now Latinos don't like him. Go figure.

  7. Which one is it? Hispanic or Latino. Far too confusing. Why can't we all just be Americans? That would be great!

  8. ^^^ Again?

    Sorry geezer.

  9. Quinton is going to win. They're all going to have some 'splaining to do!

  10. Not that I think Quinton will be a good mayor, he won't, but Latinos are asking for more of Sly James. Did they not see what Sly did to the city or are they that oblivious? Oh and, make sure they are legal before they vote.

Are we really pretending that it matters ? "POC" or "LGTBT" ?

  12. Mexicans hate black people. It's a meme that whites are the most racist because they're taught white guilt in elementary school. Mexican's are not and don't feel the need to talk down to blacks or impose any veneer with them. Not saying it's right or wrong, but the way it is

Lucas was able to get his DUI charges dismissed and Latinos have to face the charges when they have a DUI.

  14. The Latinos have been sleeping with the enemy for a long time, they always support the wrong side at the local level and national elections. Believe it or not, many Latinos supported trump and look what he's doing to Latinos at the border. This election won't be any different for them.

  15. It's a lack of political acumen. This will be the last election that the Hispanic community picks the wrong candidate. They will get the next one right and then be a force in KC politics.

  16. Unless you're a "developer", a consultant, an insider looking for bucks, a special interest "activists" with harebrained ideas to peddle, or any one of a whole menagerie of other city hall denizens, which ever of these two gets elected will have nothing to do with your life in KCMO.
    So endorse all you want.
Ignoring the public will start by the "winner" about an hour after the polls close on Tuesday.
    It never changes.

  18. The problem with Kansas City is, its a Liberal City, with the majority of its voters being liberals and voting left because they want handouts and freebies, I get that shit, this is a real shithole city to live in!!, and only the people on the top get the benefits of anything, by keeping people down and I am not talking about negros, us white people do a very good job of that and have for centuries. What I am talking is about the fucking ant farm and every race is in it every day going to work for a pidence check, being raped by polital bullshit AKA TAXES, and all thats left after all the ants hard work is half a ant turd that they are expected to feed their family on, Now we all know survival is possible because most of us have been doing it since time began. 5 Things are true in life. #1 You dont matter to politicians after they win your vote...#2 The corruption you voted for, who ever that was no matter what party you voted for, wasnt trying to help you in all of their campaign lies, they where trying to help themself!....#3 As long as you stay disresected, change will never happen in your favor. #4 Love your family and tell each family member you love them each and everyday, because in Kansas City, the death toll living here is high and the corruption is even higher! #5 If you have chest pains dont call 911 in KCMO, you have a better chance of survival if you Uber to a suburb and call 911 ( there they will actually answer the phone in less than 10 minuets), if not the corruption in this city can get you killed and they will never know your name or care to.

  19. Hate is a strong work. More like dislike. DOn't blame them for distrusting both of the candidates. But Jolie is a poor choice.

  20. Latinos don’t care for Quinton because he lies, is black and gay.

  21. The beaners always make bad choice. That should answer your question!

  22. 4:24 you got that backwards the blacks absolutely hate Mexicans, no if ands or buts about it.
