Less than 48 hours after a Quinton Lucas Mayoral victory, we notice power moves already at play among the City Council.
First and foremost . . .
KATY HELD COURT TODAY IN COUNCIL WITH ONE EPIC RANT AFTER THE NEXT!!!
First up . . .
She attempted to sidetrack soccer fields for the Northland that come with a hefty price tag but serve as one of the few amenities for this part of town that lacks community centers or many youth facilities despite the fact that they bring in the majority of KC's tax revenue.
And then . . .
In an odd 20 minute tribute to Kansas City dog catchers, she attempted to turn an upcoming animal control management issue into a civil rights struggle along with Council Lady Alissia Canady. Behind the scenes, there's a move outsource animal control and debate over this topic turned into a lecture from the 4th District At-Large Council lady fresh off a big victory and support of the winning Mayoral Candidate.
According to a witness . . .
"She turned a 45 minute council meeting into an hour and a half marathon. She's obviously feeling "empowered" and ready to try and dominate the new council. I also noticed (Mayor-elect) Quinton Lucas was rather quiet today."
And so we ask . . .
IS KATHERYN SHIELDS TOO QUICK TO PLAY QUINTON LUCAS KINGMAKER?!?!?
Fact is, a lot of people are taking credit for his victory but she is FIRST to step in line in Council chambers.
And so, we're getting a good preview of the new Council as this power player seems ready to flex on her colleagues and assert her dominance far ahead of new committee assignments or new Council members taking power.

DeleteShe's not the new mayor. She is just a supporter of Quinton's. Nothing special considering that most of the city wanted to see him in office. For his sake I hope that he's able to claim some independence. It's not a good sign that so many people already want to get their claws into him. She might be the first but she definitely won't be the last.
