After an exhaustive year-long campaign season, a smallish percentage of Kansas City residents selected the new guy at City Hall who will dutifully take orders from people who actually hold real power.
The morning after . . .
KANSAS CITY VOTERS SEND MIXED MESSAGES THAT MAINLY MIMICKED CAMPAIGNS WITH THE MOST MONEY!!!
There's no doubt that marketing works and locals proved supplicant to sponsored content social media posts, junk mail and even a legacy ad blitz.
Now, election roundups are easy and The Pitch provides the quickest, best and most readable summary of last night's vote.
However, here are TKC we DIG DEEPER and offer a THE ONLY KC REAL TALK view of the power players behind the scene who won and lost the election.
To wit . . . Let's just jump into it:
THE WINNERS
Developers Triumph Over Plebs
Question 1 was SMACKED DOWN because the ballot language sucked, the campaigners were disorganized and Crosby Kemper III talks a big game but doesn't like to get his hands dirty. And so some very nice marketing budgets earned voter approval and secured the status quo for the elite ruling class. Until markets decides otherwise.
Freedom Still Dominates
The Mayor is a Freedom candidate, the fun-loving Joey Cuts campaign was chopped away, Brandon Ellington has to at least listen to them, AND they even picked the white lady winner in the 6th At-Large.
The legacy of this power player group continues as show better organizational skills than any local civic group and stayed on message to win DOMINANT political influence over their community once again.
White Ladies Now Determine The Fate Of The Quinton Lucas Administration
We all have to serve somebody and without votes on the council Quinton Lucas is nothing more than a smiling face. Accordingly, Council Ladies Katheryn Shields and Teresa Loar will determine the WIN OR FAIL of the new mayor more than anyone else.
THE LOSERS
Jermaine Reed Endorsed Jolie Justus And Now He's Got Nowhere To Go . . .
OR . . . Does somebody have a job for Jermaine???
He backed Jolie Justus. He made A LOT of enemies during his time in office. He's still described as one of the most arrogant politicos in recent Kansas City history yet he doesn't have much significant legislation to his credit. Even worse, so many negative vibes directed his way means that corporations don't have much incentive to hire him given that he won't be able to lobby City Hall for a year and has made enemies over just about everyone who has been forced to work with him closely. We wish him luck but NO HIGHER OFFICE AWAITS and local biz can be exceptionally "forgetful" when it comes to power players suddenly out of power.
Will Classic Newspaper Hack Hearne EVAR Get Another Full Time Journalism Job???
I sure hope so. But don't really care either way. The guy is a throwback to a long ago era when the local elite still dominated the cultural scene. Nowadays social media influencers have replaced MSM taste-makers and Twitter beef is more accessible than the gossip of the upper-class. And so this old school columnist and his "reporting" alleging that the new mayor is a closeted homosexual based only on anonymous sources was not only universally rejected but also revealed that the legacy of a formerly powerful family doesn't really understand as much about future of journalism or the media industry as he claims in his occasional blog posts.
Northland Leaders On The Wrong Side Of A Kansas City Election Yet Again
Northland leaders picked Jolie Justus early and more importantly, their turnout numbers were lackluster whilst the rest of the city hit nearly 20% which is garbage but still good for this town. Basically, the Northland as a voting bloc opted out of this election. The saving grace is that Police & Fire live out North but their pensions and special interests will come long before their advocacy for community and stuff like sidewalks.
AND SO . . .
Another election is history as Kansas City once again endures promises of "change" as the new denizens in power are nearly identical with their predecessors.
Developing . . .
I voted for Quinton and I feel damn good about it. Sorry if your milage varies.
ReplyDeleteBitches.
^^^^ Bitch, please.
DeleteGo back in the closet
Sly have away corporate welfare.
DeleteQuinton want more real welfare for the hood.
Still just money out of your pocket. At least the guy has a nicer smile and isn't so pissed off like the old mayor.
Clay should contest this vote, he was disenfranchised!
ReplyDeleteThe real losers?
ReplyDeleteKCMO.
the northland should try to become its own municipality. once (if ever) that place gets its shit in order it's going to be a force to be reckoned with and will hopefully bring some sort of balance back to this city that's going down hill
ReplyDelete11:38, he was not disenfranchised. He was on the fist ballot, & rejected by the voters.
ReplyDeleteHe's the one not playing by the rules.
I didn't follow the mayoral election too closely despite being a lifelong kansas citian. Can someone give me a rundown of what to expect with Lucas. What's bad about him? Anything good about him? What sort of direction will he try to take the city?
ReplyDeleteI'm legit asking not looking for troll answers or anything
Seems to me that we can expect more negro hijinks, more incompetent leadership from subhuman animals and more GIB$MEDAT!!!
DeleteWelcome to Killer Shitty
ReplyDeleteWhat about all of the Internet tough guys? You mean that didn't influence any votes.
ReplyDeleteSorry.
But...But...Quinton...DUI...
ReplyDeleteTony, you missed another winner. Pete Mundo.
ReplyDeleteHis show had both candidates on regularly for the last two months. Pete has made the KCMO race and its impact on the city as a whole a regular topic on his show.
Compare and contrast that to Dana and Parks who seem like they can't be bothered talking anything other than their inside bubble. Yesterday while Pete talked about the Mayorial race and asked Sly long overdue hard questions on crime. Dana and Parks played one of their mindless game shows and talked about deodorant.
710 put Mundo up against Dana and Parks at 2 to 6. He'll win, trust me.
Fox 4 was falling all over the win by Lucas, saying it was a "changing of the guard." Right, another black mayor beholden to developers is a changing of the guard. Nice try. Agree with post above about the Northland, but KCMO would fight that to the death, as the Northland's taxes fund the Jazz District, the Negro League museum, and the million-dollar art projects. It won't happen unless there is a serious plan and infrastructure to support such a move. Won't see it in my lifetime. Look at Liberty for reasons why politicians couldn't get this done.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know if Lucas has sobered up yet?
ReplyDeleteFuck off Byron you don't live anywhere close to Kansas City so STFU.
Note to Pete Buttigieg:
ReplyDeleteKeep your same-sex "wife" out of the limelight like Sharice did and Jolie did not.
David Johnson cracked me up. he was tweeting around like he was impartial on this race. He portrayed himself as a Justus pal and I bet it cost her votes. That guy seems very divisive. Yesterday ... on election day... he was tweeting about how the new downtown hotel is designed poorly. The right person won this election.
ReplyDelete^^^^Is he still alive?
ReplyDelete"Will Classic Newspaper Hack Hearne EVAR Get Another Full Time Journalism Job???"
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm. No. And "classic?"
If the city doesn't tackle its funding problems, there won't be any pensions up North.
ReplyDeleteYeah, whatever.
ReplyDeleteWho gives a fuck because we're all doomed.
Just pick up your fucking signs now (all over the goddamn city)because your popularity contest is over.
Northland didn't pick any- some of us cant vote in KC we are Parkville, Liberty NKC outskirts and cant vote and still pay the 1% working in KC.
ReplyDeleteAnd then some of like neighbors voted for the other guy not her.
Do you think Lucas is a top or a bottom? I'm guessing bottom..
ReplyDeleteTwo glorified hoodrats running the show in the third district now, the real eastside gets fucked again.
ReplyDeleteSome thing has to change in KC. we keep electing the WRONG people and our city is worse because of it.
ReplyDeleteSLie is very pissed since his endorsement of JoLie did not produce a winner but continued the failure theme of his legacy.
ReplyDeleteSaw Quinton on the local news and he is definitely enamored with blondes. During the interview, as he was talking to the blonde, his eyelids were blinking faster than a hummingbird can flap their wings. A few times he stumbled over his words apparently because he had a tongue on.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that can be taken away from this election is that the "Northland Leaders", both Deb Hermann at that "City Hall Rubber Stamp" Northland Neighborhoods Inc.; and Tim Kristl at the Kansas Real Estate Developers puppet Forward KC; have about as much influence with the voters north of the River as a dead squirrel lying in one of the many potholes in the Northland Streets.
ReplyDeleteIf we don't get Candidates, we don't vote - simple no?
Another Loser is Kevin McManus 6th District Councilman. He first endorsed Jason Kander that dropped out, then he endorsed Jolie Justus.
ReplyDeleteThe losers are the residents of Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteAll Quinton has to do is fix the infrastructure problems, trash pickup problems, crime, water rates, new city manager, and address the rest of the basics and his term will be seen as a success. This will be difficult as he has no money to work with and the go bond money has already made its way to developers.
ReplyDeletePlease post a side by side pic of Jermaine Reed as a freshman politician and his latest pic. He knows hes an asshole and he grown into even more of an asshole as of late. The funny thing is Jermaine described himself as a person who brings people together. He has ruined the 3rd District with his antics and his lining up with the Sinister Minister John Miles. Their collective chickens are coming home to roost...and its well earned and overdue.
ReplyDeleteLucas, Justus and Sly are all the same. Just like Sly and Justus Lucas will do nothing about the crime rate, useless police department and poor spending of taxpayers dollars on worthless projects. Lucas will continue to ignore the real problems Kansas City just like Sly and Justus did. Lucas will also continue to ignore the Northland which has turned out quite prosperous despite the poor leadership in Kansas City..
ReplyDeleteFirst, Forward KC and the elitists of KC north don’t do crap when it comes to elections. Q had 39 big signs compared to JJ’s 4. Signs don’t vote, but it gave indication of voting power for the Q man.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, the so called developers picked JJ and are now most likely writing checks to Q.
Reed and Troy Nash are one and the same, Nash fell off the face of the earth and so will reed, he’s poison and nobody wants that.
ReplyDelete^^^^ True!
DeleteThere was a post a couple of days ago that summed it up well. There is no money for the new mayor and council to do anything. So they will be essentially powerless.
ReplyDeleteJolie will look back and be very glad that she lost.
ReplyDelete^^^No she won't
ReplyDeleteWho's the sexy one in the green dress with the bullet bra on ?
ReplyDeleteMayor Lucas can be a hero to neglected and crumbling East KC. The part of town that was "left behind" during Sly Shit James tenure.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the rest of the city (West KC) he's likely as screwed as the rest of us until there is a thorough political house cleaning. Yeah I know good luck with that.
When does he officially take office. And how much more damage can Sly Shit James do before he packs his bags and leaves the building?
ReplyDelete6:09 when you say “neglected and crumbling eastside” do you mean the real eastside all the way to independence and lees summit or the fake eastside (central core) that only includes the koloreds and their fat fake revs?
ReplyDeleteHow much money will it cost us to send sLIE to the great beyond? I’m betting he’ll be spending tens of thousands of tax payer dollars on multiple and very lavish going away parties, you know, because he completely and single handedly saved killa shitty........ in his sick twisted bow tie the clown ways.
ReplyDeleteSly left his mark on KC and we're on the way to bankruptcy already. Sad.
ReplyDeleteKind of think this property tax assessment debacle was Sly's personal parting gift to KC along with his raised middle finger.
ReplyDeleteWith all this fake news about Kansas City momentum, lets just remember the City's sewer and water services are in complete turmoil, infrastructure in Kansas City is beyond shitty... there are no basic City services to speak of. What momentum? Building new buildings is not momentum. There are no more jobs in Kansas City than there were in 2011, especially well paying jobs. Nobody won. Its a rat race to the bottom. Whatever happened to the Googlefiber windfall that never happened...that is where you will find Kansas City momentum.
ReplyDeleteOMG an anonymous coward told me to STFU.
ReplyDeleteHe must be fucking retarded if thinks anyone, anywhere does anything that an anonymous coward tells him to do.
What should I do?
I know! I'll tell him to STFU.
There, that'll show him.
What I saw up north was 50 times more signs for Mr. Lucas. We received multiple sample ballots from our friends that are police officers and at our polling place one of their union guys was greeting everyone and asking them to vote for Lucas. I’m sure that people listened and made their decisions based on their input. Smart move by those that supported him.
ReplyDelete^^^^ Absolutely agree. A lot of people have a lot of hope for him. KC his heading in the right direction!
ReplyDeleteI like him because he's probably not going to run for reelection. Onward and upward!
ReplyDelete@6/19/19 1:53pm.... Kevin McManus is very attractive. An empty suit, but attractive.
ReplyDelete
