Southland Suffers Biz Fail Legacy

The demise of retail and light manufacturing leaves an impact in Kansas City and this part of town endures a great many empty buildings that evoke a sense of KCMO desolation. Take a look:

Commercial blight frustrates neighbors in south Kansas City

Outside a restaurant that has sat vacant for years, dozens of south Kansas City residents gathered to voice their frustration and anger about blight in their community. The residents said they "feel forgotten" and blame the city for "ignoring their community."

  1. "I believe it is an equity issue, I do," resident Karry Palmer said. "I think this would never happen in certain areas of the city."

There's that buzz word equity rearing its ugly head again. In the context of this article, it means "give us free stuff too."

But he's right that multiple commercial vacancies would never happen in certain areas of the city. Those certain areas being the ones that aren't so plagued by rampant crime as Mr. Palmer's area.

  2. Good luck. That area is has been forgotten by every mayor since Cleaver. And my guess QL isn't going to do anything either.

It's in no man's land. Sandwiched between Kansas City, Raytown, Grandview and close to Lee's Summit. A big indicator of that area's downfall was when O'Hara High School shut down. Another building that will rot until you see a story about it ten years from now.

  3. The owners of these abandoned commercial property's are enjoying golf somewhere that we do know.

  4. ...and regretting the decision they made years ago to build in areas that would eventually be infested by negroes. That's the real issue. It always is.

How do we get rid of them?

  5. @10:34. Also there's a muslim presence there too. Many live in the apartments or town homes in that area.

Bad combination. You will never see anything build in that area worth a damn.

    1. Yes I would recommend their extermination as well.

No Byron, as long as there are humans willing to stand up against the vermin ruining the world, we will not be silent.

      Die in a fire.

  9. Yeah if we did a mass extermination of fags, negroes and muzzies what a wonderful, peaceful, prosperous world we'd have, am I right?

  13. Years back the city pushed a number of things out of Hickman Mills drive with the threat of eminent domain, for an office park that never was, dont tell me you cant do anything.
Bacala's previous job - spokesman for Hickman Mills School District. Plenty of expertise shoveling b.s.

  14. The funny thing is I remember John Bacala was a horrible sports caster, at horrible K2Q in St. Joe. Now he's the PR man for south Kansas City.

I guess if you suck at your job in TV just go to PR or radio. Just ask Bonyen Lee, Hallie Shulman or Dana Wright.
