Show-Me Docs Refusing Weed Scripts?!?!

Medical marijuana applications start this week but prudish medical pros might be hesitant to play the role of Doctor Feelgood. Here's a glimpse at cowtown fear potentially killing an industry. Read more:

Reluctant doctors could hamper Missouri's nascent medical cannabis program

Missouri's potentially robust medical marijuana market, with a tentative 2020 launch, is running into early resistance from doctors reluctant to recommend MMJ products to qualifying patients. "I don't think doctors are hostile," said Dan Viets, head of the Missouri Medical Cannabis Industry Association.

  1. Whatever its other benefits, it is indisputable that marijuana weakens the immune system.

And how much do these licenses COST, by the way? Is political favoritism involved?

  5. Reputable medical doctors base their practice on the standard of care as established by the medical literature. It's called evidence-based medicine, treatment is based on evidence of efficacy. There is no doubt medical marijuana has shown great promise, but as of now, there is not a consensus in the medical literature sufficient enough for it to be evidenced based for the treatment of any condition with the possible exception of epilepsy. Until there support in the literature don't expect reputable physicians to write prescriptions for marijuana. Why is evidence-based medicine so important? All those advertisements you see on TV for plaintiff's lawyers don't pay for themselves. If a doctor takes a patient off their antidepressant and writes a script for marijuana without support in the medical literature for doing so he or she has placed every penny of his or her personal net worth at risk.

  11. Medical doctors base their practices on being held in standing with groups like the AMA and association with hospitals.

The AMA/AAP are beholden to pharma.

Pharma doesn’t want medical marijuana so they threaten the doctors through the hospitals and organizations.

Pharma sits on the boards of JAMA and NEJM and funds their advertising. “Evidence Based” becomes whatever pharma approves for publication.

Negative studies about pharma products are not allowed in these journals so “evidence based” becomes only the “evidence” favorable to pharma.
