SHOCK!!! OVERLAND PARK MOBILE PHONE SHOP BANDIT SHOT & KILLED TONIGHT!!!

Whilst Internet tough guys always applaud the killings of crooks caught in the act, generally gunfire tends to scare away shoppers, is bad for business and signals instability for the area.

Tonight, an increasingly violent Johnson County enclave earned a glimpse of local desperate times . . .

A robbery attempt at an Overland Park cellphone store Monday night ended in a fatal shooting, Overland Park police said. Authorities said a person trying to rob the store at 76th Street and Metcalf Avenue about 8 p.m. was shot by someone working at the business.

  1. Maybe, but better the robber killed than workers or customers. This should remind thieves that they're taking a risk when they target small businesses.

  2. I’m glad the robber was shot dead. It’s not as easy as they think, coming across the state line on 75th and robbing places.

  6. the shooting might not be pretty but it keeps people safe. One less bad guy. If you take away people's guns, you leave them defenseless.

  10. Was the robber a negro? That part of JoCo is pretty close to some really trashy areas.

  13. Overland Park getting worse. There are a lot of reasons why this is happening but look at the people in the apartments and so many complexes stuffed with lower income residents and that will show you why.

  14. There was a cash-for-gold in the same strip mall. A better choice. Seriously why rob a cell phone store when they get payments by credit cards and the phones can be tracked or disabled by the networks. A waste of life. But the crook decided his life wasnt worth much. If you rob a store in Joco, you must realize that there is a 1 to 20% chance you will be shot dead by clerk or CCW owner in the store as a customer. is it worth it? Huge numbers of CCW people in Kansas. They are everywhere. Anyone can carry in Kansas without a license.

  15. Something isn't right here.

This store has been targeted before. Why? They shouldn't have a lot of cash laying around.

It wasn't the owner with the self interest of protecting his store or inventory. He wasn't there.

Why would a regular employee escalate a simple robbery to a full gun fight. Why was the robber's wife be waiting outside? I wonder if there is a side business being conducted at this location that isn't on the up and up.

  20. Give lots of credit to the (dead) robber: he didn't try to hold up a gun store this time.

  21. The robber was from Raytown, but there's too much Section 8 housing in Johnson County. It's a plague that brings nothing but pain to others. Wouldn't doubt if he had some family or friends in the area. Everybody should fight to keep Section 8 housing away from where they live. Crime rates do nothing but rise in those areas.
