SHOCK!!! INMATE ATTACKS POLICE OFFICER AT JACKSON COUNTY JAIL!!!

Dangerous conditions and a crisis continue at the Jackson County Jail despite the lack of political will to start the process of building a new facility.

The human rights crisis has cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands already but now security for guards and police comes into question.

Credit where it's due, there has been more transparency in reporting this threat but the question remains:

WHEN WILL JACKSON COUNTY EXEC FRANK WHITE START WORK ON FIXING THE JACKSON COUNTY JAIL CRISIS!?!

Behind the scenes, the reality is that he's got bigger problems of his own.

For now, check the deets:

The assault on the officer happened around 2:30 when an Independence officer was transporting inmates to the Jackson County Detention Center. Diana Turner, director of the jail, said the officer parked the transport vehicle with five inmates inside. When he opened the van to allow two of the inmates out, one of them attacked him from behind, throwing him to the ground and putting him into a choke-hold.

The suspect then took the officer's keys and attempted to escape in the van with three inmates still inside.

Additional officers responded and were able to stop the suspect from taking the van.

Both the officer, who has not been identified and the prisoner were taken to an area hospital. Extent of injuries is unknown at this time.

  2. Remember that big ol black dude who did something similar in Wyandotte county with the female officer? Do these people have nothing to live for? Think about all the crazy people still roaming the streets in KCMO or independence who belong in jail.

  3. Security is lax at most jails. Officers and guards are constantly in danger. This should be a big concern when designing the new facility.

  4. Fix the problem at the source, more capital punishment and quicker.

  8. why are we wanting to spend money on this. Id rather have the DMV line shorter. Give the guards automatic weapons and tell them to shoot these fucks. Bullets cost less than trials.

  12. Actually, this had nothing to do with the jail. This was a lone Independence officer transporting 5 inmates by themself, including an extremely high risk individual. Shame on Independence.
