NEW YORK TIMES REPORTS KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT DISPARITY!!!

Here's the tease and a bit of well timed promo . . .

"The widening gap between a prosperous downtown and struggling neighborhoods is an issue in the race for mayor of Kansas City, Mo. Jolie Justis, one of the candidates, touring an East Side neighborhood with a fellow city councillor, Jermaine Reed, left, and the head of the local neighborhood association, John James."

As Downtowns Prosper, Voters Ask Mayors: What About My Neighborhood?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The resurgence of downtown Kansas City, Mo., radiates from the luxury apartment towers with floor-to-ceiling windows and a rooftop pool. It is visible in the art galleries and clothing boutiques flanking the new 2-mile streetcar line, and in the open-air bar and restaurant promenade that is packed with people when the weather is nice.

  1. I didn’t see any of them touring the real eastside, Ive been outside all day and not one of them came through my neighborhood. Why is it always about the neighborhoods off of prospect? Hundreds of millions of dollars get spent over there and it’s still a shithole, time to make those kolored people responsible for their own actions, take away all the free money, sink or swim you lazy fucks.

  3. So the NYT endorses Jolie? That ain't bad.

  4. Commentary about KC by the New York Times is about as well-informed as Lester Holt's clueless "reporting" on Jason Pander's PTSD.
Most of these folks really don't know a whole lot about the big big world beyond the Hudson River, but occasionally do a little slumming and visit the deplorables in flyover country.
Take into account that most of the east coast elites still think that Kansas City is in Kansas and you get the picture.

  6. Why is Jolie pandering to the mooselimbs? Why isn’t she visiting with the white folks? Matter of fact neither of them is looking out for whitey.

  7. It doesn't matter who wins tomorrow. Same old rhetoric and same old results. Except for a few shining monuments to The Developers, this poor old town is in the crapper.

  8. Jolie...She has some fine sweater bumps. She'd be really hot if she lost a few pounds.

  9. They mentioned "affordable housing" but failed to mention the gargantuan property tax that disproportionately affects lower middle class

Also, we do need downtown revitalization. Before it was going on the city and its neighborhoods were just as shitty as they are now, except downtown was shitty too. At least people are building shit here. The 80s through 2005 was basically just a shitty time to live in kansas city if you valued city services. Not that today's better but having a downtown people actually utilize does have some merit
