Joining us for our announcement today at the Kansas City Public Library - Southeast Branch are Library Director Crosby Kemper III, Mayor-elect Quinton Lucas, Councilwoman Alissia Canady, Turn the Page KC executive director Mike English and Kansas City Public Schools’ Samara Crawford-Herrera

More . . .

"Library officials announced they are eliminating fees and fines for overdue materials. The change also includes wiping out more than $250,000 in fines from previous years. The library hopes the change in policy will get people who might have previously avoided the library due to outstanding fines to come back."

So, return the books and start enjoying the Library again!!!

Bad idea. Not having a mechanism to hold people accountable will not bring a good result. Also when something is Free that is exactly what people believe it is worth, nothing.

Just another effort to do away with any personal responsibility.
Lots more books will simply disappear.
Just remember this idea the next time the library whines about not having enough money.

Oh boy! I will be able to read my way overdue book while I ride the free trolley and free buses.

The central branch of the library is overrun with bums. Surely some of them have enough energy and ambition to track down and visit library scofflaws, in return for a percentage of the fines they collect. Come on, Kemper, use the resources at hand!
