CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST JACKSON COUNTY UNDERWAY AMID PROPERTY TAX HOT MESS!!!

The public push back and hopefully an injunction before people get booted out of their homes . . . But probably not.

Here's the story . . .

KCTV5: Class action lawsuit underway to fight Jackson County property tax assessment

Deets and another call for a County-wide reassessment:

Attorney Mandy Shell says the Jackson County tax assessment is so uneven that she is filing a class action lawsuit to stop it.

Shell said it’s obvious that errors were made. She also believes low income people and minorities were hit the hardest.

“I’m asking that they reassess all the properties in Jackson county is what I am asking for,” she said. “They have done a horrible job and it’s completely inconsistent and make no sense at all.”

More on this later today.

  1. Just remember former State Rep Gail Beatty left her post to be the Director of the assessment department and recieved lucrative contracts for appraisals, while she was a State Rep for the City of Kansas City, Mo for its East Patrol project which displaced minority homeowners; and where the KCPD said that no new building they have ever built sought to take homes from homeowners until that project. She is total shit-for-brains and her corruption, collusion and bad faith should be part of the lawsuit. Black on Black political crimes...always an issue.

You can sell your crap house to a builder or developer for pennies on the dollar if we have to auction it off because you can't pay your property taxes.

Other wise those with deep pockets who can pay to play can enjoy a 25 year tax abatement!

    Keepin' It Frosty!

  5. Isn’t the remedy to file an appeal to the assessed valuation? What cause of action is it? And there are issues of official immunity ...

Not saying I’m defending the assessors office ...

  6. The problem with "reassessment by computer" is the oft quoted "garbage in garbage out" rule. A computer can only generate information from the guidelines it is given and when you skip a guideline it will foul up. A lot. (Pardon the pun!)

The fact of the matter is that unless you do some fairly sophisticated programming you will wind up assessing a "residential" lot on which a 900 sq. ft. family home has sat for generations as if it were part of a piece of land in the same general area with a gleaming new 25 story apartment complex loaded with millennials. Or an empty 25 foot wide lot – which cannot be built upon under city code – gets appraised at $75,000 in the same way. No big deal, just 100 times any actual value.

Of course, all of this could've been avoided by the simplest piece of computer coding: whenever a piece of property -- especially residential property -- rose in value by more than five or 10 or 25% it would be singled out for handling by a HUMAN appraiser familiar with the actual values in the city or county. Of course, that would take longer and require a staff large enough and knowledgeable enough to do the job. And it would require planning ahead sufficiently that there is time for that kind of competent job to be done.

Perhaps even worse than the screwup itself is the arrogance of the response from County government: everyone simply needs to form a line 10 or 20,000 taxpayers deep to go in and individually correct the massive error that the assessment division has perpetrated – and they had best do it quickly since the notices of assessment went out MONTHS late, giving taxpayers precious little time to appeal.

  7. ^^^ Official immunity only if corruption, collusion and bad faith aren't elements. BLACK FOLKS ARE SOME OF THE MAIN PROMOTERS OF WHITE SUPREMACY. Official immunity also has no protective cloak for discrimination.

  8. Look, the city and county have been attempting to gentrify the area for a long time. Turns out that the best way to get KC "moving forward" is to use a new, bold strategy:

    "Gentrification Through Taxation"

    Watch and learn suckas!

PS: See you at the tax auction in 3 years!

  10. Jackson County assessment director Curtis Koons has resigned over botched property tax valuations. KMBZ has an exclusive interview with JACO executive Mike Sanders. June 2013

Well at least Koons did the honorable thing. I guess White and Beatty are determined to try to save whatever reaming reputation they have which is pretty much 0 at this point.

"BLACK FOLKS ARE SOME OF THE MAIN PROMOTERS OF WHITE SUPREMACY."

Congratulations, that is the stupidest thing I have read, today.
