TWO KANSAS CITY TOWERS THREATEN TO FURTHER RUIN COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA!!!

Speculative corporate building attempts to find a loophole in order to push their real estate scheme on a neighborhood that has worked diligently to push back bigger buildings with new zoning rules.

Checkit:

41 Action News: Plans for 2 Country Club Plaza hotels to test Plaza height restrictions

Check the links:

"Two proposed hotels are testing the height requirements on the Country Club Plaza. The test comes as the Kansas City, Missouri, City Council unanimously approved the extension of the Plaza bowl overlay district in February. The proposal calls for two hotels and other amenities for the southwest corner of the intersection at W. 46th Street and Wornall Road. The requirements urge all buildings to not exceed 45 feet in the inner bowl and 90 feet in the outer bowl, which is where this proposed project is located. Renderings from the DLR Group show the hotels exceeding the 90 foot height requirement."

The opposition claims they filed their paperwork before the rules took effect.

They don’t need a loophole. Cash under the table to the city council works perfectly well.

Well they are close to the hospital when the tourists get mugged or shot.

According to Visit KC we have too many hotel rooms. KC's solution, build more hotel rooms. Makes perfect sense in the Wonderland that is City Hall.

This same thing is happening in Overland Park KS with outside interests trying to turn old historical downtown Overland Park into a glut of high rise buildings. Wouldn't be so bad but it's some of the ugliest nastiest looking stuff. Steel and glass exteriors about as appealing as a rusted up bunch of Yugo's sitting in driveways in Mission Hills.

Who the hell is going to stay in these places???? The 25 million tourists that are invisible ??? BTW the Plaza is already ruined by the little black rats that invade it from the sewers at night.

^^^^^^^^^ Excellent question. It's all just speculative development and that's not just bad for the plaza, it's a nightmare for all of Kansas City.

9:04/Common Sense, your screen name says it all. I have a friend that lives in downtown Greenville, SC. There’s been a lot of new development there too, but very attractive and blending in with existing structures. I don’t know if OP is shooting from the hip or just doesn’t care how things look. Either way, it’s a fail.

Screw the hotels, most people are staying in Aire BB these days, KC is building a Lowes hotel and convention center, in which one dude jumped off of and another dude related to the project ran across I 670 towards the hotel and got run over by a semi truck. Only in Kansas City! In this town its either a homicide or a suicide, either way people are DYING to get the fuck out of here! The city council and mayor should be so proud of their accomplishements!
