UNews: SGA issues bill to handle controversial speakers on campus

Deets:

In its final meeting of the spring semester, the Student Government Association showed its support of a proposed bill regarding protests that occurred at Michael Knowles’ on-campus event last month.

The bill would review future guest speakers based on how problematic or unproblematic their past speaking events have been. It would then be decided how to utilize security during said events.

The bill initially quoted Chancellor Mauli Agrawal, stating that UMKC has an “absolute commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and the equal rights of members of the LGBTQ community.”

There was objection to the last line. Read the report in full as students struggle to balance free speech with campus safety.

  3. Every time someone with common sense wants to speak in a public place these perverts come and protest with their stupid signs and chants show up to disturb the peace. Then when they are told to leave they start screeching and crying like their rights are being trampled on when they in facts are the ones trampling on others rights.

Progressives and the KC queer collective are a nasty bunch.

  4. Sadly, the queers and trannies are unworthy of any respect. The flaunt their depravity to all even though it sickens most people. As far as UMKC having any conservative speakers going forward, it really doesn’t matter. UMKC is a third rate school and a shithole anyway.

  5. How about a review of problematic students who have zero respect for others?

  6. How were anyone's rights violated by this man speaking? It seems that only HIS rights were violated. When did disagreeing with the current popular theory translate into a violation of rights? This makes no sense. Our best and brightest young people are falling for a genuine fraud when they decide that some people are more equal than others.

  7. How about review problematic pinko's that want to take our free speech away. Screw you UMKC you're a totalitarian school for Hitler's.

  8. Executive Order signed by President Trump will yank federal dollars from UMKC. Be the first to test it out and see who has a job afterwards. I dare you.

What if the speaker were an anti-white activist or anti-black or anti-man or anti-woman or anti-immigrant or anti-Jew or anti-Christian or anti-Muslim?

It's okay to hate on gays if The Bible tells you so?

  12. Let the fags and trannies have the place.
That will make the rich donors oh so happy.
They will soon see who has the REAL power at UMKC.

  13. Hey bLIEron, is it ok for a gay to attack a straight man? which is the real story here and not what you’re trying to twist the other way around. What is wrong with you? Are you retarded or something?

  15. We all have the same right to free speech. So why does this one group continually raise cane with people that support a conservative approach to solving problems. They want their views heard but they don't want to hear yours, that is the problem.
One right that none of us have is to throw or spray something on someone else. It isn't just rude it could be dangerous and cause security to respond with extreme force to protect everyone else that is there. The Trans group was wrong to act like this and they need to stop this tactic. Next time could end up a police shooting incident. Use your words people, use your brain for a change.

  16. All this policy does is embolden the Antifa types. Donlt like the speaker? Stir up enough shit so that they're blacklisted.

  18. No so called institute of higher learning should get a thin dime of taxpayer subsidy. Sink or swim based on whether the people actually paying the tuition deem it a safe and suitable learning environment.

  19. This argument reminds me of death penalty opponents argument that we should get rid of the death penalty because lifetime imprisonment is cheaper. Well the reason the death penalty is expensive to administer is the death penalty opponents made it that way, with their multiple appeals at all levels, lasting years and costing millions.

In the same way, the snowflakes say certain speakers should be banned because providing security for them is too expensive. Well, the reason so much security is needed is because the snowflakes engage in mob and individual violence to prevent speech they don't like.

    Fuck 'em.

  20. This is so fucking embarrassing for UMKC and will lead to much less enrollment. I have two degrees from UMKC and I'm ashamed to have been associated with them
