TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! NEW KANSAS CITY AIRPORT CONTRACT WINNER RECENTLY QUIT CITY HALL BEFORE HER COMPANY EARNED BIG MONEY BID DESPITE ONE-YEAR 'SEPARATION' REQUIREMENT!!!

A recent bid for a juicy new KCI airport contract has evoked quite a bit of local contracting company concern over fairness and insider deals.

The basics that prove we know the score but want to stay out of court on this drama that's already got local companies in a tizzy:

"The lady in question recently worked for City Hall and left in November of 2018 to form her own consulting company. She "partnered" with another local biz in order to win an EPIC contract that will rule over the majority of airport construction. After outcry from local biz, the City Manager's office was forced to answer concerns.

Why did construction companies cry foul??? There's a longstanding "separation" rule wherein city employees are required to wait at least one-year before they can chase City Hall biz. The defense of the lady's partnership: 12th & Oak leaders claim she will not have any contact with City Hall DESPITE the winning bid that will have contact and report on nearly every company working on the new airport project"

The upshot . . .

- Already we're seeing companies cry foul in how new KCI airport contracts are awarded.

- Minority and women-owned biz concerns lead the way in pointing out new KCI unfair practices as City Hall insiders ALLEGEDLY push out more qualified minority bidders.

- The debate over contracts and insider connections at City Hall is important as critics have identified this instance in order to complain about overall 12th & Oak corruption already endangering the project.

To wit . . .

THE FIGHT OVER NEW KCI CONTRACTS STARTS NOW AND CLAIMS THAT FORMER CITY HALL WORKERS EARN PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT HAVE RESONATED AMONG A GROWING NUMBER OF LOCAL BIDDERS!!!

Developing . . .

  1. No bid is the name of the game in Kansas City. That's the way business is normally done.

    1. Airport started out with a great big lie and it will keep going that way and get worse over time. The airports were supposed to pay for it all but it looks like KC is putting up most of the money and taking all of the risk over time.

The whole process stinks. I guess this woman should get credit for knowing how to work the system.

The old airport is fine. Keep it. Building this new piece of junk is going to be the biggest ripoff in Kansas City history.

  5. Not long ago chamber was promoting ~18 months of increasing passenger traffic at KCI. I bet that trend ends with the new KCI because fares will spike and carriers will exit our market :(

Hey a bit off topic, but on the topic of minority contractors not getting a fair shot at a piece of the public construction project pie, has anyone else noticed there is never any blacks working at JE Dunn job sites? City museum, downtown apartment construction, ku mental health takeover of old epa building in KCK,etc etc ... I've never seen one black construction worker at any of them

    Thanks,
    Radish

  8. Her deal to get the contract was brokered before she ever quit.

This is the crew at 12th and Oak putting as many of their people on the job as possible.

This is the tiniest of drops in the huge bucket of corruption that will take place during the building of this so called voter approved airport.

Was an outside audit ever done to see if the votes were all legit? The city has very clearly demonstrated in the past how they will manipulate the voting process in Kansas City.

    What a fuckin joke.

Radish is correct. I have worked on and off construction sites for most of my life and have seen two black guys on them.

    2

The work is hard and you must show up on time, get it done and get it done right or suffer the consequences.

Of the 2 guys that I knew, who worked on these sites, one was high quality - humpin son of a bitch, the other was gone in about a week.

The only minorities who can cut it on Construction Sites are Mexicans.

    It is what it is.

  21. Showing my age a little here but the same thing happened with the new zoo back in the nineties, former city hall employees formed companies as subs for joe Dunn and when the work was signed off as completed they folded shop, they got paid and didn’t have to honor any warranty work. This is an ongoing problem even today and will never be stopped.

  22. 3:57 that has happened many times on projects here in KC. Was a lady doctor over at Truman who started a so called minority company did several city, state and federal jobs cashed some checks and bailed before someone could blow the whistle on her. As a rule it's someone with money already who starts these so called minority companies. Or a company as like MTW back in the day who backed another doctor to form a minority company because their state and federal jobs had to use a certain number of minority companies so they form their own.

  23. Everytime I hear "KCI" I think of Teresa Loar and laugh out LOUD. She has been in politics for 20 years, is from the district where the airport is located, went to every airport conference she could find anywhere in the world on the city's dime and when it came time to address KCI - she was on the wrong side of the issue. She was the only person to advocate a "renovation of the terminals to their bones." She ran her mouth so much about "renovation", this caused a group of the council to work behind the scenes (to avoid her) on a no-bid deal. When they tried to ram it through council it caused the issue to go to a public vote and 70% of the public voted against a renovation and FOR a new single-terminal. 70% of the people voted against Teresa Loar. Where would the airport issue be had Teresa Loar known what the heck she was doing? And doing it sober? That is the real story here. She is the most irrelevant and ineffective elected official in the city's history.

Tony here's the Whole Truth. It appears one of the 'Usual Suspects' who typically gets 'all' of these types of contracts; and who typically charges double the price - finally got some 'kick butt' qualified competition. You got fed this 'crock' because 'They're Pissed' that they weren't just handed this 'fairly modest' contract 'as Usual.' It's not some big mega-million insider deal as portrayed. They competed fair, square and won. That's It!
