Now, whilst debate over the legacy of MLK is nothing new the recent revelations have sparked local concern given that the FULL KCMO COUNCIL is set to reconsider the MLK BLVD VS. THE PASEO NAME GAME before the election (in about a week and half) . . . The questions are more pressing for locals in terms of how KCMO will cope with a "complicated" legacy in the midst of a #MeToo movement that has sparked a "Blue Wave" and Democratic Party Renaissance led by politically motivated and emboldened women.
What's worse, political power players want to put the kibosh on any of this talk.
Here's the word from KICK-ASS TKC INSIDERS who have led the way on breaking news on this topic:
"Save The Paseo would be smart to stick to their talking points and avoid bringing up controversies surrounding MLK's reputation. So far, their rhetoric has been focused on how much they admire MLK and how they support a street named in his honor, just not in their backyard. They need to keep it that way or risk having their petition shut down and labeled racist. Already the debate has emboldened some supporters of Quinton Lucas as Jolie Justus flip floppled on the issue. If Save The Paseo supporters are smart, they'll ignore attempts to impugn the MLK legacy. We'll see if they have the guts and the brains to suppress their emotions -- Given that the whole effort is really just a reactionary ploy to begin with . . ."
