TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! SAVE THE PASEO VOTE MOVES FORWARD!!! JOLIE JUSTUS FLIP FLOPS MLK BLVD NAME GAME AND NOW SUPPORTS PETITIONERS AMID KANSAS CITY RACE FOR MAYOR!!!

First things first: Jolie Justus initially voted to rename The Paseo to MLK Blvd. But today she made a bold declaration and recommended to bring the "Save The Paseo" petition before the full City Council in order to put the question to voters.

This Kansas City silly season has inspired an interesting gambit among busybody Northeast neighbors and constant campaigners. Now, given her flip-flop, many local political denizens believe Jolie Justus wins on this issue because Quinton Lucas and his sponsorship of the controversial moniker change is a more grievous sin, in the minds of many, than the initial endorsement of the process from the council lady.

The full city council is expected to vote in about two weeks to place the question on the November ballot. The will be sparks during the debate and voices will be raised as the Revs are already gearing up for a return trip to Council Chambers.

The upshot:

SAVE THE PASEO SUPPORTERS HAVE FOCUSED THEIR IRE AGAINST QUINTON LUCAS AND HIS CAMPAIGN FOR MAYOR!!!

Moreover . . .

SAVE THE PASEO PETITIONERS PROVE VICTORIOUS IN FLIPPING THE JOLIE JUSTUS VOTE WHICH WILL NOW PROVOKE THE WRATH OF MANY 3RD DISTRICT LEADERS & TURN THE ELECTION INTO A BLACK VS. WHITE HOT MESS!!!

Yes, of course not all Black people support the MLK name change but in the context of politics, policy and the small number of people who actually turn out to vote . . .

THE MLK BLVD VOTE IS NOW A RACIAL LINE IN THE SAND FOR SUPPORTERS OF JOLIE JUSTUS VS. QUINTON LUCAS!!!

We expect Quinton Lucas to offer an "interesting" retort that will attempt to diffuse the inherent drama of the situation but here are the facts:

- Quinton Lucas sponsored the MLK name change.

- Jolie Justus VOTED YES ON THE MLK RENAME but now she has REVERSED her position and is working to help petitioners switch the signs back to THE PASEO despite the totally laughable fact that all of the street directions were recently replaced.

- The "Save The Paseo" group have been exceptionally public in their condemnation of the process and Quinton Lucas for moving the issue forward.

Like or not, this issue is mostly black and white AND it provides yet another instance of public policy push back directed against City Hall by voters frustrated with the continual & undue influence of politicos over neighborhoods.

You decide . . .

    2. It is an illegal petition, it should not be considered. I'm only glad that Jolie Justus is showing her true colors in putting it to the vote and exposing herself as a typical racist.

    3. ^^^ Not racist at all, she is doing the right thing.

  2. She's not flip flopping at all. She is doing the right thing for her constituents and for the city. Let the people vote on it!

  3. If she can make the election a referendum on the name change she actually has a shot at winning.

Also, even if this doesn't pass the fight to save the paseo will continue and it will only get worse for the city council. Residents will not let this stand

  4. Thank you TKC for at least mentioning that not all Black people are in support of MLK blvd. I agree that it was not done property and we must look at how Quinton Lucas pushed that through without the consent of neighbors in that area. Furthermore, I think the petitioners did the right thing in bringing this issue to a vote. That was the what was promised from the beginning. I think a public referendum is the only way to go to settle the issue once and for all.

Appears that Jolie is trying to support a grass roots effort like what succeeded in Shawnee?

  6. I’m Black. I support the petition to put the name change to a vote. I believe that the people decide what does and not occur in Kansas CIty; and it should be like that. Paseo was the wrong street, at the wrong time - and well, I don’t see this as a Black or White issue, but there are a lot of narrow-minded, small thinking or incapable of thought types supporting the name change. I didn’t plan on voting for any Mayoral candidate. So, Jolie’s flip on this doesn’t really change things.

Will Jermaine Reed now publicly withdraw his endorsement of Jolie Justus?

    a) Yes, Reed will have to reverse course to save face.

    b) No, he's more concerned about getting Jolie's assistance in landing a new position.

    c) Who is this Jermaine Reed that you speak of?

    1. I may not completely agree with the comment completely but I do admit that @7:16 is right about one thing. Jolie stabbed Jermaine Reed in the back.

  18. Sure jolie will change her tune now if she thinks it will usher her another vote or two. But beware of her changing her mind if she makes it into office. Her promises now may all fly out the window if she wins and returns to her old ways of doing things.

  19. This is just more grandstanding and doesn't do a thing.
Justus favors having the council "consider" putting this issue on the ballot.
Which the full council is sure NOT TO DO.
And the electeds in KCMO are notorious for ignoring petitioners and the public generally.
In KCMO the insider game always wins.
And what little moral courage these folks has will prove to be nowhere near enough to actually DO the right thing just before an election.
    It never changes.

  24. The people have spoken5/22/19, 9:21 PM

The simple fact is that this is an illegal petition and it is moving forward without the proper Authority. The petitioners have not made their case and the signatures are invalid. This petition has no standing and it should not go any further the fact that it made it out of committee shows us that Julie just doesn't really believe in anything but her own ambition.

8:04, that is a very good question. And, it's been asked here more than a few times. So, the lack of transparency is not KC Nice, but it appears to be the SOP in the crony capitalists' kiss ass arenas. Backroom no bid deals, campaign favors, and rigged votes pushed through too much debt for building a frivolous new single-terminal, for an unnecessary convention hotel, and for money-pit entertainment districts, plus cash guzzling touristy streetcars!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Of course Jolie changed her position. She’s 8 points down and thinks this will help her get the White Sheet vote. Sufficient reason to never vote for her, and I support keeping it The Paseo!!!

  30. Once the street gets reversed back to the street name that never should have been changed in the first place, the homicide rates will explode and the monkeys on the poarch who do the usual 100+ killings in this city will cry rasism and blame the homicide rate they will excellerate at 200+ homicides on the street change, all while MLK would roll over in his grave if he knew how his monkey kin were acting today. 31. Do not support the name change or some of the stupid racism from the comments on this post.

The people who are trying to change the Paseo are Black, Latino, White and Asian. We are united neighbors of Northeast.

This isn't about disgusting racism, it's about saving the history of our neighborhood and protecting the rights of residents. This idiots who post the racism just do it because they're trying to sabotage our efforts or because they're mentally ill. KC is a beautiful place welcome to all and everyone should be concerned when public vote isn't done the right way.

  35. @6:12 and @9:21, you have posted here repeatedly that the petition to reverse the MLK name change is illegal, but that is simply not true.
In actual fact, the illegal action was the City Council's action to change the name in the first place.

I urge you to read the City Charter on line for yourself.
Section Two contains the steps required to change a street name.
I'll summarize them, but again I urge you to read them yourself.

    1) A petition bearing the required number of names of registered voters living in KC is submitted to the Plans And Zoning Committee.

    2) the petition must be accompanied by written statements from 75%ofthe Property Owners whose property abuts the street in question, agreeing to the name change.

3} Plans And Zoning must verify the signatures and the "statements of agreement" and when done, must forward the petition and statements to the City Council, along with the Committee's certification of verification.

    4) the City Council must place the question on the next City-wide ballot for voter approval.

    5) if a simple majority of voters the name change, the City Council must pass an ordinance officially changing the street's name.

NONE of these steps were followed in the instance of the change from Paseo to MLK, and the current petition, already certified as having enough valid signatures, simply seeks to force redress of the Council's illegal actions.

One more time, let me urge you to search for the KCMO City Charter online and read these facts for yourself.

  36. 7:13, don't waste your time. That poster doesn't care whether his claims are true or false. He/she has been challenged before now to back them up with facts in support of his conclusions, but unsurprisingly no response was forthcoming.

  37. Would better honor Dr King if MLK park were properly maintained. Pump some money into it. Spruce it up. This was basically Brandon Ellington point when interview on ruckus a few weeks back.

To re name a street why not a numbered street e.g. 63rd? There was a history behind paseo and the layout of our Blvd system and the city beautiful movement and kessler and all that boring stuff to read about when the long mansion finally re opens :)

    Thanks,
    Radish

  38. How does anyone know that this bull shit wasn't instigated by a revenue seeking MLK family attorney? Who is paid a percentage of royalties received?

Lots of motivation to instigate the street change name....via fake fat reverend kick-back favors. Fat fake Reverends are just a mouthpiece for MLK family.

  39. The petition is an illegal mess. The Council is required to strike it down. It will be postponed.

  40. Didn't she flip once before when the guy who was going to run for Mayor and then decided not to? Seems to me Justus will say ANYTHING for the vote and flip anyway to get them.
