Midtown Kansas City Hipster Biz Will Die Without Toy Train Streetcar Extension

Fair enough . . . Here's a glimpse of local who have believed the irrational exuberance of folly trolley advocates and invested far too much money for A SCHEME THAT HAS CONSISTENTLY BEEN DENIED FEDERAL FUNDING.

But don't believe history, just take the world of small local biz leveraged to the hilt on transit hype that might or might not pay off. Checkit:

  1. The scooters will be able to transport the hipsters from one gig to the next. A few days ago the push was for KCMO to get into the scooter business as a replacement for the failed fair weather toy train. Don't forget the failed KCMO bicycle program can take up the slack.

  2. If I recall correctly, several businesses have closed along the existing trolly route lately. So apparently businesses can fail with or without the folly trolly.

  6. I was eating leisurely lunch at City Diner a month or so back, watching the street car. Out of 10 or so stops at the 3rd street "station" I only saw one family get on the train, clearly touristing. No others getting on or off at that stop on a Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 - 2. That's about as non-scientific as you can get, but I really would've expected more people than that going to the Chinese market if nothing else.

  7. People will find the streetcar unbearably slow if riding it from downtown to the Plaza and they'll soon get tired of that and opt for faster transport like Uber or Lyft. And soon we'll have Waymo driverless vans that are already in other cities. https://waymo.com

  8. David Johnson isnt even on the KCATA board. I like his enthusiasm but he seems like he is trying to not go away until he monetizes himself. He drops terms on Twitter like he is an engineer.. " yeah we will burn in the car.. blah.. then naming one technical drop.. hilarious
