Kansas City Developers Aren't Worried About A New Mayor Taking Away Their Tax Breaks

For a young professional, The Grand apartment building in the heart of downtown, blocks from the Power and Light district, is a dream - it's home to the highest rooftop pool in Kansas City, an indoor theater, a yoga studio, a digital sports lounge and a pet spa. Yes, a pet spa.

When the time comes for these entities to start paying their full share, they will just cry poverty and get an extension.... i.e. The STAR.

Projects like this make me wonder if we have abandoned the idea of our downtown being a central business district. Granting huge subsidies not for businesses and jobs, but instead for luxury dwellings. There's no jobs in this deal. Maybe some temporary construction jobs but don't kid yourself. Those guys don't live in the city. After their shift they hop in their trucks and drive home to basehor or buckner or lone Jack or wherever and they don't spend a dime in KCMO. Oh and the streets of downtown KC are terrible in spite of all this attention subsidies and debt focused on downtown.

3:59 for the win. Companies continue to not want to locate in an amusement park. The gay mafia can work at hotels and then what.
