Shawnee Wants A New Community Center - Here's Why A Grassroots Group Opposes It
Last week, ballots started arriving in Shawnee mailboxes, asking voters to decide on a $38 million bond issue to build a new community center with a pool and fitness center in the city's growing western end. It's a project the city has been talking about for 15 years, and decided in February to take it to voters.
In other words it's a fancy and overpriced YMCA.
ReplyDeleteIt’s really going to be a daycare for Wyandotte’s youth. A parade of KCK mothers are going to be dropping their kids off there every day.
ReplyDeleteWonder what Tracy will have to say about this. I seem to recall she was somewhat opposed to it before.
ReplyDeleteYes Tracy is opposed to it same as I am. As 9:53 says an overpriced YMCA. Cities all around the metro area have lost their minds. Overland Park is ruining it's historical downtown area and most who support the new look live in places like California and Florida.
ReplyDelete^^I'm soooo old. Nothing should ever change. I fear change! Oh woe is me!!! Blah blah blah.
ReplyDelete^^^^^STFU you idiot
ReplyDeleteCue the sexy, sensuous and always mysteriously alluring Tracy in 3-2-1... Gibe'em hell Tracy.
ReplyDeleteVote no is correct their are plenty of places to go swim without someone sort project being slipped on Shawnee tax payers. This stinks like something out of kc.9
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing smells bad. The way the city council is cramming it down citizens throats, the tax plan that is deceptive at best and says it is only 38 million but it includes financing up to about 56 - 60 million. And on land the city already owns so way overpriced. I would vote no if I lived in Shawnee.
ReplyDeleteI hope the citizens fight back on this shit.
ReplyDeleteJust a drop off day care for section 8 kids from the surrounding 10 miles.
ReplyDeleteSounds almost like Lifetime Fitness in nearby Lenexa, with a lot of workout equipment and several pools. That's not too far to drive. Not only are Shawnee homeowners going to be taxed outrageously if this go through, there are also steep membership fees attached to this place. The people who want something like this, should either drive to nearby Lenexa or call Lifetime Fitness and tell them how much they want one of their centers in Shawnee. This is not money well-spent.
