CHAMBER RESOLVED AGAINST LIMITING KANSAS CITY CORPORATE WELFARE!!!

The debate over Kansas City developer tax subsidy and abutments isn't really as divisive as some might suggest. Turns out that every politico in town is on the same page as local biz leaders and their tough talk for constituents is mostly just for show.

The punchline about social justice change taking hold in Kansas City is buried in this report . . . This is really the headline:

The Chamber’s KC BizPAC committee just completed interviews with all the mayoral and council candidates, and each of them opposed Question 1.

Explainer . . .

KC Chamber Opposes Question 1 on June Ballot

The Chamber’s resolution in full:

“The KC Chamber opposes Question 1 on the June 18 ballot to establish Ordinance No. 180928 which would establish a 50 percent cap on ad valorem property taxes that may be utilized in furtherance of certain economic development projects in Kansas City, MO, and instead encourages a collaborative and thoughtful effort to develop a well-informed framework to guide an effective tax incentive plan for the city that will allow it to remain competitive and develop special incentive opportunities for development in under-resourced neighborhoods.”

  1. Of course they all support this resolution. They know who is paying the bills.

  2. Hadn't given it a lot of thought before this release, but now I'm solidly in favor of passage of Question one.

Anything that makes the hogs start squealing this far in advance has to be worthwhile.

  3. More like "encourages a collaborative effort to enrich developers, lawyers and politicians at the expense of the ordinary citizenry who have neither the time nor the funds to influence city government. Further we will encourage minority leaders to sell out their constituents by giving them a few crumbs. We will also achieve the support of the young and dumb liberals by supporting a few environmental issues that cost us nothing."

  5. Do you have any ability to argue policy or do you always just attack others who you disagree with?
