TKC MUST SEE!!! LAME DUCK KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES EXPLAINS EQUITY VIA SILLY INTERNETS MEME EXAMPLE!!!

In the midst of a crushing landslide defeat for his Pre-K initiative that was universally rejected by teachers, school administrators and voters, Mayor Sly James clearly references a popular online meme as his ideal for equity.

Check his standup quote on the topic at the recent Bloomberg Summit for Equality in NYC:

However . . .

MANY ONLINE DENIZENS HAVE A DIFFERENT TAKE ON THE POPULAR MEME MAYOR SLY REFERENCES!!!

Activists against income inequality see the struggle for equity differently:

Meanwhile, trolls get a bit gory in their criticism of social justice and equity:

Critics of "seductive socialism" tout capitalism in their hot take:

To the far left, others see the meme as an opportunity to argue for inclusion:

Finally, as debate against Prez Trump's Border Wall ramps up again, there's a widely touted version of the meme that stresses liberation:

Nevertheless . . .

It's strange to see lame duck mayor Sly James playing the social justice warrior after a tenure spent championing tax breaks for developers and misplaced priorities pushing the corporate agenda of the Greater Kansas City Chamber Of Commerce.

And so we throw it back to our blog community . . .

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT MAYOR SLY'S INTERNETS MEME VERSION OF EQUITY!?!?

It's a topic worth exploring in these last few weeks of the Mayor's tenure whilst he attempts to rewrite his legacy and once again convince Kansas City voters that he didn't spend most of his time working for the benefit of the local elite.

You decide . . .

  4. I think Sly's heart is in the right place and if you really look at the Pre-K effort, it was how he started his first term. He always wanted to help schools but the effort isn't there. I saw something about an upcoming bond issue on here and that's what the KCPS wants to do. Sometimes there is no saving people but we're glad that people keep trying.

  5. He got that toy train and a few other legacy frou frous. The corny part of sly is, he plastered his mug. Everywhere anytime , he wanted to be a beloved public figure, mostly empty gestures like the ill fated slys rock the block, you gotta be realistic.

  6. He’s definitely made history in KCMO.....as the worst mayor ever.

  7. If Uncle Sly and City Hall could bottle and sell its hypocrisy, they could pay off the city's debt. In fact, its hypocrisy is only exceeded by its incompetence and criminality, which appear to be limitless.

  8. This is really disgusting and a new low for this blog. Again, I wouldn't have noticed this post if it wasn't for other people forwarding it my way. I have told them to stop because this post is not relevant and should be ignored by the voters of Kansas City. What are you trying to accomplish with this post? The term of Mayor Sly James has ended and kicking him while he is out of office does absolutely no good.

If you look at it objectively the Mayor has been one of the best KC has ever seen. Because of him we have a streetcar, a new convention hotel and an airport on the way. TKC chooses skepticism and complaints about the "corporate agenda" but he is overlooking that these projects create jobs for workers across the metro. The Mayor's work will put thousands of people to work and there is simply no denying that.

And to all the people who might complain, I can only ask? What have you done? How have you improved Kansas City in the past 8 years? Mayor Sly James has helped to build up downtown and now only his critics want to twist the story and say that's a bad thing. The should simply show their gratitude for the progress that's underway and the momentum we have achieved under the watch of Mayor James.

    2. Chris, it's the mayor's job to improve things. It's the citizen's job to speak out when they see an incompetent clown like your boss doing nothing about the real issues of the city. Mayor Bullhorn's terrible legacy speaks for itself; like Nero he did nothing of importance while crises exploded.

You're the shameless spokesperson of a grifter clown way past his sell-by date. Live with it.

    ^^"What have you done?"
Citizens pay their TAXES so Slie can spend time championing tax breaks for developers and misplaced priorities, such as the failed fair weather toy train, and pushing the corporate agenda of the Greater Kansas City Chamber Of Commerce.

This is actually Slies last attempt to try and remain relevant.

  17. With so much negativity on this blog I can see how many people were turned away from voting. But if you look at what the voters did this election you'll see that they chose Jolie Justus by a greater margin than anyone else. You don't need any more endorsement than what the voters have selected and they chose to go with someone who is recommended by mayor James. So it's obvious that Kansas City likes the momentum that we are achieving its only some of the readers of this blog who are the constant opposition and don't have a viable plan of their own. The mayor has done a remarkable job leading Kansas City and Jolie Justus will continue that work and keep up that momentum.

    1. Barely anyone votes, Chris. Don't be so fast to claim victory among the apathetic. If there was real turnout, neither your present fraud of a boss or the silly Jolie would have a prayer.

The momentum, as you well know, is toward infrastructure crumbling and blood in the streets. Sly's legacy is malignant failure.

      And you know it.

Well, let's see - I'm a retired white guy, paid my taxes all the years I worked, help out doing handymen stuff around my neighborhood, go around picking up trash weekly.

Oh, and for the past five years, I've bought gravel and Asphalt Patch out of my own pocket that I've used to keep repairing a huge pothole in the street that YOUR GODDAMNED MAYOR JAMES AND MY USELESS COUNCILPERSON (Jolie Justus) WON'T DO JACK SHIT ABOUT!

    Any of that count?
By your unbiased standards, I'd guess not, but I may be wrong.

This guy spends his time in absolute silence about being the 5th most dangerous city, affordable housing, economic stagnation and just about every other social justice issue that is under his actual responsibility but in the 11th hour he hosts a forum on race and wants to do Pre-K. Just a sell-out in every definition of the word. It will be great when he is gone and hopefully never comes back.

  29. This confirms that "equity" is code for equal outcomes. Say we contribute a million dollars to school funding. It buys new textbooks, the latest science lab equipment, more powerful laptop computers, and pays for more teachers and smaller class sizes. Most kids take advantage of the largess, by learning and refining their ability to think through problems. But some kids don't try to learn, act out in class, get suspended, attend school only sporadically and do not learn or develop how to think.

Equality of opportunity means the kids (and maybe their parents) failed.

Equity (equality of outcome) means a million dollars was not enough. Kick that up to two million.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mayor James hasn't practiced "Equity" a day in his life. In fact I doubt he would even know what "Equity" is if it were to bitch slap him upside the head.

  34. In a capitalistic society anyone that desires can work and be the best worker that they can be. That can bring success and rewards in many forms. You can then get a better job and pay or become an entrepreneur and make your way to living in a better neighborhood or improving your current one. Equity and equality are never promised to us. It is never just given. Equality is that everyone that aspires to be a success is given the chance. Equity is what you get from taking the chance. If you don't take the chance, you don't get the equity. Equity is how you measure someones success.

Very good point. Sly's done less for the eastside than any mayor in my memory. Had he been white, he'd have been called out as a racist.

As for gopher, with his calls for people not to read TKC ("I have told them to stop because this post is not relevant and should be ignored by the voters of Kansas City"), does he realize most people in KC do not live downtown, do not ride the streetcar, will not stay in one of the new hotels, and cannot afford (and do not desire) to live in one of the luxury future slum dwellings being built at taxpayer expense? What we'd like to see is a city that takes care of its infrastructure and fixes (not patches) potholes, starting with the "Welcome to Kansas City" craters at 75th & State Line.
