Here's the word:
Congressman Cleaver’s Statement on the Mueller Report
April 18, 2019
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Cleaver released this statement following the release of the Special Counsel’s report on the investigation into Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election:
“As I continue to parse through all 448 pages of the Mueller report, some facts stand out.
The Mueller Report confirms the U.S. Intelligence Community’s assessment that the Russian government made concerted efforts to interfere in and influence the 2016 presidential election in favor of Donald Trump, something the President has struggled to admit time and time again, including in front of Vladimir Putin himself.
The Special Counsel said he was unable to exonerate Donald Trump of obstruction of justice, and suggested Congress could take action on at least 10 instances where the President sought to interfere in the investigation. This is in direct contradiction to Attorney General Barr’s letter and recent statements, and should be deeply concerning to all Americans dedicated to the rule of law.
We can debate back and forth whether the President’s actions reach the high bar of criminality. What should not be up for debate, is the fact that the President’s behavior is beneath the office of the Presidency and extremely dangerous to the democratic institutions America was founded on. I have complete faith that the Congressional committees of jurisdiction will look further into the report and uphold their constitutional duty to provide oversight of the executive branch.
Our nation is divided along racial, religious, and partisan lines. I find myself more concerned each passing day with the disunity of our Union. While the Mueller Report proved the President to be the person we believed him to be, I find myself similar to where I stood yesterday. I still believe the best way to rid ourselves of the current President is to provide the American people with someone better in 2020. I’ll continue working on the agenda Democrats have put forward to lower health care costs, provide every American with a living wage, and rebuild our American infrastructure.”
