TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY PRIMARY VOTE 2019 WINNERS & LOSERS!!!

Now more than ever it's important for OUR KICK-ASS BLOG COMMUNITY to bring this town perspective, analysis, insight and more than a handful of snark in the aftermath of a primary vote that has most denizens of the Kansas City discourse confused.

Accordingly . . .

READERS OF TKC REMAIN THE STRONGEST FORCE IN KANSAS CITY POLITICS WITH THE FREEDOM TO ANALYZE, INTERPRET AND CLOWN THE PRIMARY ELECTION AFTERMATH IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS!!!

So let's just jump right into it with tribute to the winners and recognition of those on the losing side of last night's equation.

THE WINNERS

Team efforts dominated the latest election as "the system" worked to perfection at local ballot boxes. Checkit:

Tech Duopoly Dominates KCMO Politics

Last month we noticed that this mayoral race was fought on social media and Youtube pre-roll. Now MSM is getting the point as the conversation moves to phones and winning politicos invested in online adverts at a record-breaking pace.

KCPT DICTATES TALKING POINTS

Presenter Nick Haines was the face of the media in this election and a forum at the Library was the low-turnout climax of the primary vote silly season. As local Democracy is now nothing more than niche programming, credit to "viewers like you" along with taxpayers for funding a conversation that voters seem to trust because of fancy accents.

SPECIAL INTERESTS STAY WINNING!!!

Bundled big money dominated this campaign season with players like The Chamber, The Civic Council and local law firms representing a multiplicity of concerns once again controlling candidates no matter their rhetoric to the contrary.

FREEDOM, INC. STILL RULES EAST SIDE

Freedom, Inc. candidates lead in the 3rd In-District and both 5th District seats. Freedom, Inc. supports Quinton Lucas as well. There's no denying that this group maintains its powerhouse designation with the ability to deliver votes more reliably than any other coalition of urban core advocates.

12TH & OAK ERA OF KANSAS CITY COUNCIL LADY COALITION COMING SOON!!!

Council ladies Heather Hall & Teresa Loar were uncontested. Last night Katy Shields nearly quadrupled the votes of her nearest opponent. And while these women don't all agree on every issue . . . These ladies will all be term-limited and free to call issues as they see them over the next 4-years.

THE LOSERS

They tried their best and often against the advice of friends and colleagues, here's the wrong side of the last night's voting. Checkit:

LIFE LESSON: MAYOR SLY RUINS LEGACY

Mayor Sly was not only soundly rejected but also subjected to a horrific rebuke that calls his entire tenure into question. The election SMACK DOWN dooms him to going back to his workaday life as "a big fish in a little pond" when only a few short months ago many locals believed he had the potential to become a player on the national stage.

KANSAS CITY STAR WRONG &  IRRELEVANT

Election highlight . . .

THE VOTING PUBLIC TOTALLY IGNORED MAYORAL ENDORSEMENTS FROM KANSAS CITY STAR DEAD-TREE MEDIA!!!

It wasn't even close, the suggestions from the newspaper finished near the bottom of the pack where a game of horseshoes is more relevant to the lives of KCMO voters. Without question, this is the first Kansas City election wherein THE NEWSPAPER WAS OBJECTIVELY A NON-FACTOR.

MONEY CAN'T BUY KANSAS CITY LOVE

These elite white dudes had lots of cash on hand but no experience and very little rep to convince voters. They would have been better served wasting the money on a shopping spree as the electorate ignored their deep pockets and tragic gambit to exchange cash for respect from voters.

THE SCOTTS SUFFERED CONFUSION

Council Dudes Scott Wagner & Scott Taylor didn't do well last night and they either need to team up as a comedy act, change their first names or go in opposite directions. Despite big bucks for the 6th District contender and the entire Northland serving as the Mayor Pro-Tem's stomping ground . . . They simply failed to differentiate themselves from the competition.

NORTHLAND NOT STRONG!!!

The "Vote Northland Strong" signs were divisive and lame. TKC Fact Check: The Northland is Kansas City's biggest and fastest growing community but greater numbers have not yet yielded more political power as candidates simply couldn't inspire their neighbors to show up to the ballot box. Both Clay & Platte County trailed significantly behind KCMO voter turnout numbers. Northalnd PAC Forward Kansas City picked Steve Miller to win it all and their mistake highlights problems with the group's tone deaf leadership.

And so . . .

Another election quickly awaits as politicos keep spinning narratives toward a voting public that pushed back against the agenda-setting function of MSM and sought to share the spotlight with political contenders in an overdose of forums wherein all of the opinions sounded the same.

  1. I guess Vegas favored Lucas after all.

    1. Sly did his best to raise money for students. Nothing wrong with that, actually, a good legacy to leave behind.

    2. The didn't let 1/3rd of the field debate at the library forum. Only Crosby Kemper came in and made sure everyone had to speak. That's not Democracy, if it wasn't for the chief of the library it would have been nothing more sophisticated than mob rule.

  3. Instead of crapping on everybody, maybe you should offer some helpful advice.

Both Steve Miller and Philip Glynn would have done very will as candidates for council. Maybe political hopefuls should learn to work their way up instead of going for the top job right out of the gate. We need more people who are willing to get involved but it can't be just about glory. There is a real demand for elected officials willing to do the work. Right now at City Hall those kind of people are in short supply.

    1. Yep. I’d happily vote for Glynn for Council.

  4. "White guys" need not apply.

ANY white boy politician who thinks he has a future in the Democrat Party should go straight to Brooklyn and buy a bridge.

    1. Sad but true. I'd like to disagree but I think that's what this election showed us.

In the 4th district Geoff Jolly and Eric Bunch are both white male Democrats but that's so far down the totem pole in terms of importance, it might not be relevant even in a strong council form of government.

  5. The best quote I have seen so far!

  6. Who won?
Any of the 85% of metro residents who DON'T live anywhere in KCMO.
Don't work there and give away one percent of your earnings so that the next round of clowns can blow it on toys and fun.
And visit and enjoy all the great attractions that have NOTHING to do with KCMO government.
Just avoid the potholes, dangerous neighborhoods, excessive sales taxes, and fake "entertainment" districts, and be sure to out of town by dark.
Let the antics of the general election begin!

I walked the length of Kansas City with @joliejustus over the last 10 weeks because I believe she's the best and most qualified candidate for Mayor. If you care about equity, transportation, and safe neighborhoods, vote for Jolie on Tuesday, April 2!

  20. transportation: if the North land is growing time to move the intersection of I-35 and I-70 North.Intersecting North of river will give the area more stimulus and decongest for local commuters. Intersecting downtown never worked, is a jumbled mess and thwarts real PROGRESS AND MOMENTUM of the downtown core. Intersecting north, one side of loop could easily be filled in and buildings like power One Light Luxury Apartments would be less of a joke. Stop dicking around with your transportation dollars and do a real transportation project. Airport is regional, make it more regionally accessible. I-35 and i-70 should intersection somewhere between the airport and Liberty. Less through traffic disrupting attempts to revive urban living. Is that a shocker, have to get rid of the piece of infrastructure mistake that destroyed urban living in kansas city to truly revive it? Is it a shocker that the traffic growth since the 1950s has made the downtown loop obsolete for regional, national, and local traffic and ya need need to make that 435 more substantial completely encircling corridor that gives the core more flexibility and improves living. How much is through traffic on US 71-- there is just something wrong with that road.stoplights or not.
