TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! INSIDERS: SOUTHLAND DECIDES KANSAS CITY MAYOR'S RACE!!!

Our last installment in the political implications of tiny geopolitics in Kansas City offers a hint at the conclusion of the contest for control of city hall.

On Sunday we noted the Northland bias against Jolie Justus.

And this week we talked about capitalist power players in The Corridor lining up against Quinton Lucas.

To wit . . .

INSIDERS REVEAL: SOUTHLAND VOTERS DICTATE NEXT KANSAS CITY MAYOR!!!

Let's unpack this premise with a relevant example from this election . . .

More than anyone else, 5th District Council Lady Alissia Canady signaled change in Kansas City voting with her mayoral bid.

How???

A quick look at the polling numbers tells many insiders that:

Southeast Kansas City and not the 3rd District is now the dominant enclave for African-American voters. Even more interestingly, local powerhouse group Freedom, Inc. cannot claim control of this neighborhood and that means the district is up for grabs.

Council Lady Canady started her tenure by beating Freedom, Inc. and toward the end of her Mayoral run the Quinton Lucas camapign was terrified that she would siphon away their votes. Whilst endorsements mostly don't matter, Team Quinton should get down on their hands and knees and beg Council Lady Canady for her recommendation that has the potential to swing more than a few votes.

Further South and to the west . . .

Cerner development has a lot of promise for the area and was championed by the Administration of Mayor James. However, it's an open secret that the workers for this corporation don't live or vote in SKC and the "campus" is really more of fortress protecting workers from the surrounding community.

And so that leaves us with the old school Southland residents who have been largely excluded from so much hype about the momentum, vibrancy and density taking hold in Kansas City.

Sure, Red Bridge was remodeled in manner that miffed most residents but, on the bright side . . . A Southland mass killing is going to trial this month after a five year wait.

A few more demographic fun facts . . .

- South of the corridor is a huge Catholic enclave that might not find the "progressive" pitch for Jolie Justus convincing.

- The demographics of the Southland are changing overall with more renters moving this direction as costs spike in the heavily populated sections of Kansas City.

- The Southland is home to a great many of KC's greying population and they vote with more intensity and dedication than their hipster neighbors in Midtown or the Crossroads.

For these reasons and so many more, whilst we don't make predictions or endorsements . . . Our TKC blog community advises . . .

THE CANDIDATE WHO CAN INSPIRE VOTERS IN THE SOUTHLAND DECISIVELY WINS THE KANSAS CITY MAYORAL RACE!!!

You decide . . .

    1. Hey now TKC, you forgot to mention that the streetcar doesn't go out South. And they didn't get a convention hotel. So Gopher KC has nothing to brag about! I guess neither of has bosses have a chance at winning there.

  2. Actually.

A lot more Cerner employees are moving to south KC near leawood. The same can be said of Burns & mac employees. So they have more of a reason to vote for Jolie than you might think!

  3. ^^^ Are you nuts?

NEVER met a Burns and McDonnell employee who didn't live in Johnson County. Can't say I blame them.

  4. Even after a good slugging match, Quinton and Alissia are cool. Ever the politician, Quinton was quick to pen an excellent FB post the night of the election, singing Alissia's praises (to which she responded in kind).

Rumor has it, Canady was last seen boarding a plane to Vegas, cash ready to throw down. This kingmaker will get hers too.

And that's why, even Alissia Canady knows...
    VEGAS!
    FAVORS!
    LUCAS!

  5. KCMO's luck ran out and hit the wall when the Marine Sly James got in.

All that's left now is a nasty banquet of consequences.

  6. Marine Sly James

    Hahahahaha good one.

  7. Mayor James did serve his country as a Marine and that is an undeniable fact. What else that TKC glosses over is that the Cerner development was transformative for South Kansas City and not a fortress at all. These new residents will take the advice of Mayor Sly James who has been a hero for his service to both country and Kansas City. They will also vote for Jolie Justus in order to continue our progress and momentum.

Um you remember when Uncle Sly in that KCUR interview said he isn't building this city for them. Right after that pitch the Streetcar extension went down in flames.

Could be they don't see that what was really built is a crime infested shit hole running on air financially also there in Grey Land.

  13. Sly is right. Fuck those geezers! All they do is shit themselves and cry about it daily. They'll be dead & gone and KC will still be vibrant & world class long after their rotting bones turn to dust. Stay frosty geezers, it'll all be over soon!

  14. Go4KC, Cerner might be "transformative" as far as transforming cash flow into the wallets of connected cronies - but the idea that Cerner employees are moving into Ruskin fuckin Heights to be closer to work and stopping at Paul's Pizza for Big Boys after work (It's a killer hamburger by the way.) is preposterous.

It's a "Fortress" where JoCo folks can work and eat, then, get their asses, as fast as possible back onto 435 West and return across the DMZ to safety.

If the city reaps some tax revenue off of this deal, fine, but don't pretend that Blue Ridge has one less fuckin pothole, or, one less murder at 107th and Blue Ridge "Death Zone".

  15. I am up and down, Blue Ridge, 95th st., Hillcrest etc. all the time, not one fucking thing has changed, not one fucking leaf has moved, there are more shell casings than usual.

  16. Let's see - so far we've been told that the Southland, Northland, ward Parkway, downtown and the Central City are each one the key to this election, although I may have missed one or two.

Don't any of the "Political Insiders" have a flipping clue about this mess?

    ReplyDelete
  17. ^^^^^^
It's not that no one has a clue.
It's really just that nobody cares.
What difference does any of this actually make?
