This right-wing effort wants legislators to have more control of what professors say in the classroom. Here's the most important part:
"The legislation would ban what are known as "free speech zones," which are designated areas on campus for student expression. It calls for colleges and universities to adopt free speech policies by Jan. 1 . . . But the legislation also warns faculty not to talk about issues that are unrelated to their classes."

Critics say Missouri free speech bill would limit speech
Critics say a Missouri bill aimed at protecting student free speech on college campuses would also chip away at free speech for professors. At issue is a bill by Republican Rep. Dean Dohrman that could be up for a full House vote as early as next week.
You don't even get free speech here anymore quit your moaning.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for it. Lib professors need to be clamped down. Most of what they say is worthless anyway. Time that students got their money's worth for tuition.
ReplyDeleteA student who is enrolled in a literature class is paying for instruction in that subject. Professors who use class time to rant about politics are cheating the student out of what she's paying for. Either rein in professors' theft of class time, or give the student a refund at the end of the term.
ReplyDelete9:52 is absolutely correct, my daughters college teachers spend 95% of their class on pissing and moaning about politics when the classes are about everything else. I’m sick of these worthless cocksuckers taking my money for their own personal beliefs, no wonder these kids are so fucked up when they graduate.
ReplyDelete9:52: And you would know that... how?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in school I had a geography professor who was in the John Birch Society, and just about all he talked about was right-wing bullshit. Once I decided to tune him out and do classwork for another class. He was pissed.
11:35 read 10:08 before you make additional stupid comments.
ReplyDeleteApparently, the above commenters can't share their own experience.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you that I never saw a college professor talk about anything that was off topic.
What I experienced was, "Let's begin. A function is ...".
Bullshit Byron.
ReplyDeleteYou never saw...?
ReplyDelete1:35, so because it never happened to you, you conclude that it doesn't happen to anyone?
