SHAME!!! KANSAS CITY STREET SWEEPING CUT AMID ALLEGED STORMWATER FEE SHORTAGE & ANOTHER RATE/TAX HIKE!!!
This story started from a tweet that earned cyclist & neighborhood outrage, now the local push back is rising beyond the middle-class . . .
First the confession . . .
Then the news . . .
KSHB: KCMO budget cuts street sweeping program
Deets:
Since 2005, street sweeping has been funded through a stormwater fee that KC Water customers pay each month. The fee is about $2.50 per household.
KC Water is responsible for maintaining 630 miles of storm sewer, 53,000 storm inlets, 15 stormwater pump stations and 13.5 miles of levee. It all added up to more than the stormwater fund could handle, necessitating the $1.4 million cut in street sweeping.
Perspective:
"It seems like a big issue: one more city service eliminated despite increasing water rates. Also of importance for cyclists who are asking for hundreds of millions in new bike lanes. If they are going to be filled with debris, how useful are they?"
Read betwixt the lines on this one . . . Another tax increase and/or water rate hike is on the way despite the nasty quality of local pipes that haven't been fixed during the last few years of development-crazed misplaced priorities at city hall.
Developing . . .
yay. city services get worse while prices rise
ReplyDeleteCity should file for bankruptcy reorganization NOW before the whole fucking shit heap comes tumbling down on everyone.
ReplyDeleteAnother failure to the taxpayers of KCMO by the Slie administration.
ReplyDeleteI now the solution! Let's just dish out more incredible tax incentives and subsidies to the developers!
ReplyDeleteThat el' fix the services budget.
Not just Sly James, Kay Barnes bankrupted this City first, then Sly piled another crushing load on top of that.
ReplyDeleteJust like certain unnamed National Political figures, then they just walked away and left their victims holding the bag.

ReplyDeleteWhen my attractive neighbor got divorced and was cleaning out her ex's trash, she asked if I wanted the "junk in her trunk"!!!
OMG I feel so bad for that guy in the handsome suit and helmet on his bikey!
ReplyDeleteIt's like, he has to pedal around those leaves and debris! And he might get dirt on his shoes!
"That fee has not increased in 16 years, so that fund has been running a deficit"
ReplyDeleteOh yah our water and sewer fees have quadrupled for this mess and we are running a deficit.
Nice Chris.
Where is all the billions the tourists spend here in Killer Shitty going?
ReplyDelete^^^ Probably Offshore
ReplyDeleteGreatest City In The World!
ReplyDeleteWere on the Slyway to Hell
ReplyDeleteDoesn’t matter to me, the street sweepers nevar evar made it to the real eastside. But by golly the central core had sweepers going up and down them once a week.
ReplyDeleteThanks sLIE, you are one worthless piece of shit.
ReplyDeleteWell Well Sly is on his way out so he's going to destroy the city even more than he has already. Where did that Go bond money go? I just saw a patch here and there except for the new buildings. How about that water hike that passed a few years ago???? And you people are going to put Lucas or Justus in???? Perfect.
KCMO Water Dept doesn’t have the money to continue street cleaning? Didn’t they have $90M a few months ago available to loan for the new airport? Why, yes. Yes they did.
ReplyDeleteChris’ ass must be jealous of his mouth with so much shit spewing from his lips. KCMO residents fucked again.
What will we do with all the cigarette butts?!!
ReplyDeleteMore streetcar will fix this one.
ReplyDeleteLet’s start burning the leaves again. Burn pits in the back yard could make a return.
ReplyDeleteDang this is bad news. Street sweeping is a basic city service even if not a priority of the creative class that smart cities like us borrow millions to chase after ...
ReplyDeletePublic works staff is likely swamped with pot hole duty...
Thanks,
-radish
Comment at 11:21 is exactly right. First paragraph I mean, not the gross stuff in 2nd paragraph.

Replying to @KCMO311 @a_m_parsons @KCMO
Heads up, I should be on @41actionnews tonight at 10pm talking about this issue and and demonstrating how unsafe uncleaned bike lanes are."
Hopefully ST BIKES KC will also be demonstrating how unsafe unplowed streets are for motorists and pedestrians.
$3.8 billion for an unnecessary new airport; $1.4 million for streetsweeping cut.
ReplyDeleteI truly believe our city government is making stupid an art form.
Well thank God the streetcar and three light has brought in all of those revenues.
ReplyDeleteNeighborhoods band together to get their neighborhoods sweeped and the headlines well read "The racist past of community street sweeping"
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody have a clue what was handed out to developers alone last month or last year? What is that total amount? Why isn't local MSM all over this story? Between Cordish and the new airport many many millions of dollars have been wasted on unnecessary projects while the rest of the city is falling the hell down.
ReplyDeleteI think every city in Johnson County has a street sweeping program in place but what is suppose to be the shining beacon of the metro area has none nor does it have any plans to restart it.
Meanwhile enough money was handed to the 18th and Vine area this year alone to pay for app 10 years of street sweeping. One has to simply drive through the 18th and Vine area and to not seen any improvements at all to it but millions and millions of dollars all manage to disappear over there every year with nothing to show for it.
Come on people wake up and do something about it. An election is coming so make a difference for once. If the city blocks any write in votes for Mayor I'm sure if the residents start screaming dictatorship tactics by city hall the federal government would have to step in.
But Trump might sit back and look at it as if the voters don't give a damn about who is running the place why should we the federal government give a damn.
It's MKCGA time!
^^^ You might want to leave Trump out of this talk about hand outs to developers. Washington DC under Trump is as swampy as it's ever been.
ReplyDelete^^^And you know this how? Stock Market sure was good to me yesterday and has been more than it ever was under Obama.
ReplyDeleteThere go those fancy bike lanes.
