KCMO PRE-K SALES TAX DEFEATED!!!

Bright side for tonight's vote and a sign that Kansas City taxpayers from across the spectrum of demographic and partisan lines are capable of working together in order to REJECT a bad idea.

Schools & teachers hated this plan.

Neighborhoods & tax fighters united in their opposition.

Most of the politicos running for office also opposed this effort for fear of angering their constituents.

KCUR: Kansas City Voters Listen To School Superintendents, Rejecting Pre-K Sales Tax

KSHB: Voters turn down KCMO pre-K sales tax

KMBC: Kansas City voters overwhelmingly rejected a call to raise the sales tax for citywide pre-K education.

Before you start celebrating, remember there's a $500-MILLION secretive school bond issue on deck and a great deal of the opposition tonight didn't want to risk the bigger cash request coming before voters which TKC reported FIRST.

  5. What a turd of an election. Nothing but turds in this vote. I like that the stations spent about 5 minutes on it. Nothing more.

  6. KC shot itself in the foot today. We had a chance to spend money on schools and teachers but instead we're going to fix buildings. That is a shame.

  8. Finally, Kansas City voters showed some good sense and financial responsibility. This should have never been on the ballot.

  11. No wonder KCMO is such a train wreck. It’s only taken them eight years to give Sly the middle finger. Better late than never I guess.

  12. The only truly great thing the taxpayers have done in this election, voted this scam down, resoundingly, sLIE looked like he was drunk and crying.

The city will ignore this vote the same as they did for the failed fair weather toy train.

  14. ^^^^^My thoughts exactly. When has the will of the voters kept the council from doing what it wants anyway?

  15. The Pre-K tax was too obviously a scam even for Kansas City voters. Still it lost not for the most cogent reason (pre-k has not been shown to have a lasting beneficial effect) but because the tax would be regressive. I suppose if James could have found some way to make only higher income households pay for it, voters would have bought into this dog of a proposal.
